I'm interested in your material settings . . . care to elaborate on your setup?

None yet. Those images are just screencaps from Hexagon, which doesn't have a render engine, but has a sort of fake render view option that makes everything look sort of dull metallic. I plan on doing the maps in UVmapper and Paintshop Pro. I'm not planning on using any fancy shaders or procedurals so that it stays completely compatible with Poser and DS.

    Update time!

All the UV mapping is finished. This time I used UVMapper Pro instead of Classic and tried the "split vertexes" technique to get all the edges looking sharp in Poser. It seems to have worked. I tried putting the hull plating texture in the Reflection and Specularity channels instead of just painting it on the hull, and that seems to be working pretty well. I think there might be something tweeky with the lower hull where those 3 vertical windows are, but making the normals double-sided seems to have fixed it. I hate the backs of the nacelles, but I can't think of any way to make it better yet. I was hoping to do the cheese grater style instead of the white spheres, but I may have to give up on that one. Here's a few wips. The tweeking continues.

Very, very nice. I can see this ship appearing in TOS with no problem at all.

Regarding the nacelles, who big are they compared to the Constitution?

Scroll up a few posts for a screenshot. That should answer your nacelle size question as well as confirm that it does indeed look good in TOS. :)

Totally fantastic work. :techman::techman::techman: I really like your attention to detail as well as the accuracy to the ship seen in "Charlie X". It is one of my favorate TAS ships seen in "More Troubles More Tribbles". Are you considering doing the variant?

I can imagine a convoy of six to eight of the robot version controlled by a lead ship with the crew module.

It looks a very ugly design I must say. Then again I imagine that aesthetics were the last thing on the designer's minds when they drew this up. It's merely there to transport materials around with maximum volume space as possible.

...It's exactly that apparent lack of cargo volume that makes me think there could be something to the idea that these drones normally tow large cargo barges.

That, or then the Todd Guenther / SSA blueprints idea, already commented on and linked to here, wherein various modular cargo holds can be bolted to the forward and aft surfaces of that ventral "keel", and we tend to see examples that carry exceptionally small or few such holds.

The pads at the stern do look like they'd be perfect for attaching a large cargo container. Perhaps it even connects to the raised portion of the hull. The strange funnel portion of the lower hull is harder to rationalize.

I agree with the idea of it being some kind of cargo hauler unit. It seems to fit that kind of purpose. That said, your work is great, I like how you've captured it.
