I watched Ant-Man last night and it did not disappoint! It's a very funny movie, with great, inventive action scenes that make good use of the size differences/changes, good 3D, and a brilliant cast. One of my favorite Marvel movies, even if it doesn't have the strong creative voice that it might have had under Edgar Wright's direction.

And it's really nice to have a smaller-scale (heh) superhero movie that isn't about the end of the world/universe again.

I really liked it. Definitely one of the better Marvel movies. Hell, I enjoyed it more than Age of Ultron.

I give it an A (not just because the poll doesn't include A+s and A-s, but because I thought A was correct). To put it in perspective, Iron Man is an A, Avengers and The Winter Soldier are A+ and Iron Man 3 and The First Avenger are A-. It really was a fun movie throughout. It had good heart, good humor, good action - pretty much everything you'd want. The heist stuff was good. My only complaint is I wanted a bit more of it. I also liked the ending with smaller scale goals (the good guys arguably had achieved the majority of their goals by that point in the movie, but the stakes seemed just as important). I thought Corey Stoll did a great job with the role he had as a relatable but threatening villain (although probably in the middle of the pack overall).

They did a really good job of making the action and aesthetic stand out from other films in the universe, and not just because of the size-changing; Pena's rapid-fire monologues complete with a lot of swipe-cuts really stand out.

Yeah, that's a fair point. It definitely had its own style I thought worked great. Those scenes were fun, especially:
Stan Lee's cameo

I had almost forgotten about him until it happened.

I enjoyed it. Solid "A".

I enjoyed the nods to the larger MCU, but caught something that might be at odds with AoS. In the episode "Melinda", they make it sound as if the Triskelion was being newly contructed less than a decade ago, while Ant-Man shows it being built in 1989.

Solid performances all around and the humor was mostly on-target. I enoyed Falcon's cameo and was both over-joyed and deeply saddened by Janet Van Dyne's brief appearance. Now I really want to see some older adventures of Ant-Man and the Wasp. I know that they are setting up Hope to be the new Wasp, but Hope is no Jan. Jan is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Jan has this goofy, happy-go-lucky personality that totally belies the fact that she will kick your ass if you cross her. At least Hope has the ass-kicking part down.

Saw it today. CaptainCanada mentioned this, but the opening with the CGI-ed young Michael Douglas literally blew me away. It really was like they'd gone back in time and stolen the Wall Street era Douglas and used him for that scene. Absolutely flawless :techman:

Enjoyed the movie enough, gave it a B. A few of the jokes did fall a bit flat though I felt.
I avoided most of the newer trailers so I had no idea Falcon would be in it, and I loved the final post-credits scene :)

I have to say that worked pretty well.

I really enjoyed it, so it gets an A from me.
It wasn't anything mind blowing or groundbreaking, but I thought it was just a lot of fun. It had some good characters, lots of humor, and some really cool action scenes. The shrinking effects, which obviously were the most important part were really cool.
Even though I tried to avoid spoilers, I still heard about Falcon, but I was surprised how much he was in it. I was expecting a few seconds long came in one of the post credits scenes, so I was surprised that he had as much screen time as he did, and that it was so important to the overall plot.
I'm a big fan of Evangeline Lilly from Lost, so I really liked seeing her as Hope. I really hope she gets to some Wasp action scenes in a future movie.
I hadn't heard anything about the second post credits scene, so I really enjoyed that.
My only issues is more of a comic book fanboy complaint. I was originally hoping we'd get an older Cassie so they could use her as an entry to a future Young Avengers movie, but given her age that seems unlikely.

Why does that seem unlikely? It too Marvel 8 years from their first movie to introduce Dr. Strange, and 9 for Black Panther.
At this rate, Young Avengers 9 or 10 or more years from now isn't far fetched at all. They can only make so many movies a year, and we know it's not happening in the next few (realistically it won't happen, but you know what I mean, the math is fine for her age)

A

That was surprisingly really good. Lightyears better than Age of Ultron, and even funnier than Guardians in my opinion.

If I have any complaint though, it's that the miniature POV shots just didn't seem as wondrous or awe-inspiring as I would have expected (either because they rushed by so quick or because it all just looks like the same CGI we see in every movie nowadays).

Although I will say I was very impressed by the de-aging done on Douglas at the beginning. That was just shockingly good, and easily one of the best effects I've seen in any movie all year.

I went into this movie with pretty low expectations. The trailer was so-so and the whole Edgar Wright thing left a bad taste in my mouth.

I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the greatest Marvel movie but it was very well done for what it was, which was basically a remake of the original Iron Man movie. Paul Rudd was very charming, there was a good sense of humor, the action was interesting, the characters were fun...

Just like the first Iron Man, it's painfully light on plot/story/villain/action and very heavy on character and training, so it's not gonna have as great re-watch value.

I totally geeked out when he broke into the New Avengers Compound and fought the Falcon! I had NO IDEA the Falcon was in the movie! So nice not to be spoiled! I also loved that Hydra was trying to buy the tech at the end of the movie. I was also miraculously unspoiled on the Civil War epilogue which was great. I'm assuming that's a scene out of the actual movie because surely they don't capture Bucky OFF-SCREEN.

I do hope they make a sequel where they rescue the Wasp out of the microverse. That's a good story idea. Too bad Fox doubtlessly owns the rights to Psycho Man since he's an FF character.

There were a couple sequences that felt very Edgar Wright, like when Pena would recount where he heard the stories from and a few other quick montage sequences like that. I can only assume the scenes he refused to do were the ones connecting it to the MCU... the opening with Agent Carter and Howard... New Avengers Compound and the Falcoln... Hydra buying the tech...

Yeah I assume (hope) that the final post credit scene actually is a just scene from Civil War, as it seems to important to just leave for the hardcore fans to see.

And about that Hydra thing, I didn't really get that as I thought Hydra has basically been defeated in Age of Ultron, and in the finale of AoS Ward he and a few others are really all that's left?

I suspect it's more likely they're just fractured into groups. Alternatively, Ward has done a really good job.

My girlfriend, who is a bit superhero-tired, find this almost the best reason to go and watch it, since we both feel that Iron Man 1 is one of (if not THE) most rewatcheble movies in the MCU.

Haven't seen it yet, it'll be released here in a few days, so hopefully next weekend.

You're right. I guess it's not totally out of the realm of possibility that the MCU is still going strong in 10ish years.

I didn't think about the fact that the post-credits scene could be a scene from Civil War itself, that would make more sense then them putting something so big at the end of a movie for an unrelated character.

I was kind of surprised by the Hydra bit too, but I just assumed they must have been from a group that managed to avoid S.H.I.E.L.D. and The Avengers.

I suspect it's more likely they're just fractured into groups. Alternatively, Ward has done a really good job.
I like the Ward idea. If they do go that route I wonder if we'll get an AOS tie-in with Ward either pissed they didn't get the shrinking tech or sending the guys out to try to get it.
I just thought of something, the facility that Falcon and Cap are operating out of is The New Avengers facility. So does that mean the Falcon, Cap, Scarlet Witch, ect. team is the New Avengers rather than just The Avengers?

Can someone refresh my memory? Did Hydra make it out with Cross's version of Pym particles? I seem to remember someone trying.
