Another trip down memory lane... one-hit wonders!!!

"Lessons in Love" got airplay in the US as well. Many just don't remember it.
Can't say I recall the Level 42 "Lessons in Love" (Dang, that's a popular song title!), but I do remember Paul Carrack's "Lesson in Love" from his Suburban Voodoo album. :)

Carrack sang lead on Pilot's 1975 hit "Magic" (produced by Alan Parsons, even) as well as on several songs by Mike + The Mechanics, including "Silent Running". He had a solo hit in the US with "I Need You" and his one hit with Squeeze (he was only with them for one album) was "Tempted". :)

(ETA: The reference to Pilot's "Magic" is erroneous. See this post for a correction.)

Right, Mike + the Mechanics!

Wow, complete forgot about them and that song.
Damn, getting old is a bitch!:lol:

Again, forgive if any are repeats (or, for that matter, has multiple hits in your corner of the world).

The Vapors - "Turning Japanese"

Real Life - "Send Me An Angel"

Benny Mardones - "Into the Night"

Moving Pictures - "What About Me"

Sniff 'N' The Tears - "Driver's Seat"

Nick Gilder - "Hot Child in the City"

Yello - "Oh, Yeah"

Eurogliders - "Heaven (Must Be There)"

Peter Schilling - "Major Tom (Coming Home)"

Shakespeare's Sister - "Stay"

Timbuk 3 - "The Future's So Bright (I Gotta Wear Shades)"

Sheila E. - "The Glamorous Life"

Baltimora - "Tarzanboy"

Charilie Dore - "Pilot of the Airwaves"

Gerardo - "Rico Suave"

Taco - "Puttin' On The Ritz"

Everything But The Girl - "Missing"

The Tubes - "She's A Beauty" (Okay, they had several "songs of note" that people remember, but this was really the only that qualifies as a "hit".)

Randy Newman - "Short People" (As prolific a movie composer as he is, I'm pretty sure that was his only big radio hit.)

Icehouse - "Crazy"

My brain is dripping out of my head...I'll try and come up with more later. (Disclaimer: Again, this is a US-centric and perhaps even regional list. These artists may have had different success in your part of the world.) :)

Actually I believe that was David Paton. (better known as Alan Parsons' original bass player)
And he was also involved with Ambrosia, a group Parsons also produced in its earliest days. You are correct.

I was ACTUALLY thinking of "How Long" by Ace...THAT was Paul Carrack's mid-'70s hit. Not sure how I came up with Pilot's "Magic" in place of that though!
Icehouse - "Crazy"

Forget about Electric Blue?
I vaguely recall that one, okay. Actually, my favorite Icehouse recordings are on their debut album, which I'd rather listen to than their later, more-pop-oriented stuff. I'll have to see if I have a copy of "Electric Blue" somewhere to refresh my memory of it. :)

^^^^
I gotta tell ya', all these Lazytown avatars of yours are kind of freaking me out. :cardie: ;)

Here's another one, I don't think it's been mentioned yet:

Feargal Sharkey - "A Good Heart"

Van Stephenson - "Modern Day Delilah"

Boys Don't Cry - "I Wanna Be A Cowboy"

Brenda Russell - "Piano In The Dark"

The Weather Girls - "It's Raining Men"

Frida - "I Know There's Something Going On"

The Buggles - "Video Killed the Radio Star"

Kryton, hate to be a buzzkill, buddy, but:

Missing Persons - "Destination Unknown"

As I recall, Missing Persons had at least two other hits: "Walking in L.A." and "What're Words For?" Mind you, they may have not gotten as much airplay in your area. YMMV.

That said, I do think "Destination Unknown" is their best work...

I do remember "What Are Words For", but I don't think that actually qualified as a "hit".

But then a LOT of the titles I've suggested probably don't qualify as a "hit" so much as something that got some airplay, so you are correct.

Without hard-and-fast delineation, this is definitely a subjective topic. That much is certain. :)

Maybe this should be retitled 1 or two hit wonders?
Anyhow

Ram Jam: BlackBetty
Paperlace: The Night Chicogo Died & Billy Don't be a Hero
