Another Retail Business (Zavvi) Goes Under...

I remember when Newlook brought the old WH smith store in Nottingham they closed all the smaller shops.
It would not surprise me if HMV did the same i can't see the one near broadmarsh staying open at least.
And i read today it looks like Brantanos shoes are in trouble makes you wonder who is next i wounder how the AU natural near me stays open there never anyone in there.

Yeah if one's gonna go it'll be the Broadmarsh one.

Despite all the doom and gloom everytime I turn around there's another Subway or Tesco open! Some people are obviously still doing a roaring trade. I expect Primark and Wilkinsons will continue to do well also.

Good! Hard cheese, they shouldn't have been such overcharging bastards then

I went to the closing down sale to the one in York and it was a joke. Even on its last legs it was still a ripoff. I just walked around laughing, everything was far, far cheaper on the likes of Play or Amazon

I mean what the fuck are you thinking when in your closing down sale you put Resevoir Dogs DVD at £20! :wtf:
I got that over three years previous for 6 quid.
Bunch of clowns!

See I find this bizarre - I just came from zavvi myself, with a armful of CDs, didn't pay over £3 for any of them (wouldn't have - I won't pay more than I could get em for on itunes these days), SG-1's final season for about a third RRP, and Far Cry 2 under £20.
It seems the prices in zavvi vary wildly across the country - some peopel find them a massive rip-off, and others find them quite often cheaper than teh interwebs. A little coherence across the company might have helped save them...

I wonder with the place closing down if some of the stock was put out with the old prices left on.
Saying that Resevoir Dogs should have never been £20 to start with.

^They did put some stock out with the old prices on and then said the 25% discount would be done at the checkout.

That still didn't make their Blu-Ray prices palatable.

It's pricey in Glasgow - even the staff complained that it's unrealistic to compete against HMV with their prices (which could be up to three times as much).

I've always went in to check against HMV on the off chance I'll find something cheaper there, but it's never happened.

The odd thing is that I always used to prefer Virgin to HMV--years ago--as Virgin were usually cheaper!

As I say - it's so strange. They're regularly cheaper than HMV in Bristol. Not that HMV are expensive, the difference is usually a pound or two at most either way, but they're certainly competitive - which is why I guess Bristol was one of the zavvi stores bought by Head Entertainment.
