Another Krugman Geekout

Krugman is always a lot of fun and he's right more often than he's wrong which is odd for an economist.

That's a great line. :bolian:
Krugman, although not being a macroeconomist, does belong to the old school which thought that economic models have to enlighten one aspect of reality and above all match the data as opposed to contemporary economists who basically want their models to be neat and pretty but forget to check whether they have anything to do with the real world.
So yeah, unlike many other economists (usually right-wingers,) who blog or write for newspapers Krugman regularly undermines his claims with data. Still not confidence fairy that ends the "little depression", still no bond vigilantes that raised interest rates for T-bills, still no skyrocketing inflation.

Trekkies: They win the Nobel prize.

He is more of a prose science fiction fan. I know he is a fan of Strauss and he makes comparisons between Asimov's psychohistory and economics.

He was on the programme at the 2009 World Science Fiction Convention, in Montreal, where I was the Events Director. I got to meet him briefly, when Charlie Stross interviewed him following Opening Ceremonies and I was handling the microphone for the audience Q&A portion.

I read this weekend that he's actually writing an introduction for the new edition of the Foundation series. Should be interesting.
