Another "Fringe" incident in Boston.

I wasn't bothering to educate myself
Yeah, that much was quite painfully obvious.
Ah, you're the king of "quoting out of context", aren't you? I can see why. :klingon:

Being from the Middle Eastern region of the world, no doubt they've encountered some discrimination here in the USA. They know about all the paranoia and fear about terrorism.
Yeah, and you gave a pretty good example of that. Well done, patriot.
You can go jump off a cliff for all I care with your snide remarks. Hey, you're from the lizard family... cold blooded and slithering... perhaps you should go crawl under a rock instead.

Really, they should be kicked out of the country for trespassing? How about we let the authorities do their jobs and figure out if they were up to something worse?
I wasn't bothering to educate myself with the layout of the Quabbin reservoir and try to find out exactly where these students were trespassing. If they were still quite far from gaining direct access to the water supply, then yes--their milling about could have been pretty innocent. Just bored college kids looking for a new place to get away from the campus. And for that, just fine them. But, if they were shown to have breached security in an unpredictable way and gained direct access to the water, I'd levy a graver punishment on them. Being from the Middle Eastern region of the world, no doubt they've encountered some discrimination here in the USA. They know about all the paranoia and fear about terrorism. Pretty darned stupid of them not to consider that.

Stupidity is very different from malicious intent. I find it disturbing that people were immediately calling for them to be kicked out of the country, even though they had only been charged with trespassing.

trespassing near a water supply, kick them out, they can reapply later.

Also it's a well known fact that the government adds shit to the water, they are "bleaching" the water more and more to make sure it's clean. There is no "conspiracy" about it, water isn't just water, it's shit the government adds (like fluoride which the CDC says shouldn't be added) shit people use on their lawns and runs into the groundwater, and pills people threw in the toilet.

Also from the road to the water is 1.5 miles to two miles at most in the middle main entrance.

Clean water is a problem for you? Because there are plenty of places you could go where there isn't such easy access to clean water. You'll likely die of diarrhea, but hey, at least the government won't be cleaning your water! And you do know that fluoride occurs naturally in water, right? And that water treatment's job is to make sure it's within safe ranges, which means adding it when it's low and removing it when it's high?

Your paranoia is as silly as the OP's you mocked.

I don't know what alternative-universe CDC you're talking about, but the one in our universe calls community water fluoridation one of the great public health achievements of the 20th century. Their lowering the maximum levels a couple years ago is a far cry from saying no fluoride should be added.

It's not the 1950s anymore. Sure in the 20th century it was great because people didn't get enough fluoride. However sense then we now have other sources of fluoride and it isn't needed to be added to water. This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's a fact. It's why so many have fluorosis.

Which is why the CDC wants the amount lowered, which is why they came out and admitted that under 8 year old children are getting too much fluoride. They even admited that it's not the 20th century anymore.

Why is the Department of Health and Human Services developing new recommendations for community water fluoridation?

Sources of fluoride have increased since the early 1960s. At that time, drinking water and food and beverages prepared with fluoridated water accounted for nearly all of an individual’s fluoride intake. Today, water is just one of several sources of fluoride. Other sources include dental products such as toothpaste and mouth rinses, prescription fluoride supplements, and professionally applied fluoride products such as varnish and gels.

I'm not saying fluoride is bad for the teeth, I'm saying we are getting more than we need and it leads to tooth decay, and it's no longer needed in water. Which is why it's not added in such numbers, or outright banned, in European countries. But I guess Europe has dirty water.

^Again, you've missed the vital point that fluoridation is about maintaining a safe range of fluoride in water, which means adding it when necessary and removing it when there's too much.

Settle down, Gary.

And it's almost never removed, and most of the planet, even the parts we call civilized, don't add extra and their water is clean and safe and all that great stuff.

Added fluoride is not needed in the USA, and is kind of pointless. The country eats poorly, and drinks soda. It's the sugar that will rot your teeth if you have fluoride or not.

^Do you have legitimate sources for any of your claims? Because your first statement is just plain wrong, and your second statement is ridiculous -- firstly, the sugar in soda doesn't stay in contact with the teeth long enough to do damage, the real dangers are starchy vegetables like corn and potatoes and breads/cereals, secondly, a diet that leads to tooth decay is a perfect argument for fluoridation. What scares you so much about fluoride?
