Anime Distributor CPM kicks the Bucket

Very true. Too bad Patlabor was one of casualties of CPM's demise. Luckily I had the whole franchise already. :(

I also enjoyed Mobile Suit Gundam, Armored Trooper Votoms, Bubblegum Crisis, Maison Ikkoku, and Kimagure Orange Road to name a few other great classic series. The current classic I'm watching now is Fist of the North Star, I usually try to work one in every once in a while.

Also, unless if it's Speed Racer, Voltron, Robotech (Macross) or Ronin Warriors, old school anime will never in the US among all the non-Japanese anime market, the US market seems to be less acceptive of old school anime due to new wave anime fans complaining how the animation look old and less shiny.
I'm very aware of this idiotic attitude not judging a show on other merits instead dismissing it simply because it "isn't pretty enough".

Well, it's the same way that people don't really watch black and white films anymore... with new technology, it's inevitably difficult to go back.
Same thing with language if you think about it... how many people read Chaucer if they don't have to?
I can only imagine it's going to get worse with stuff not being able to be in high def I can't imagine not wanting to watch some classic Doctor Who or Twilight Zone episodes because they are in black and white.

Why can't people just enjoy the classics for what they are?
That's an excellent question I suppose people are ignorant or are superficial about stuff like caring only about animation or special effects.

Lupin III inspired Cowboy Bebop and yet US fans refuse to admit Lupin III's influence.
Happens all the time like when people refused to admit the importance of the original Gundam when it came out on Toonami and not judging it for merits other than animation quality leading to it's untimely demise. I guarantee that if they released Gundam Wing today it would end up like GaoGaiGar the best anime that nobody bought.

I may not like the look of something but it doesn't mean I'm not going to give it a chance though. There are several series (new and old) that I've watched and really disliked the character designs but liked the show anyway.
That's a good attitude to have I wish more anime fans were like that. Then we could get more vintage shows over here.

What was your opinion on VOTOMS? I think I was the one that convinced you to buy it lol.

I like the old and the new anime. I watch Naruto, but I adore shows like PatLabor. Nothing like a good cop dramedy with giant robots. It's great!

I agree, and don't get me wrong I enjoy newer animes too, I'm a fan of Fullmetal Alchemist, Hajime No Ippo and many others, I actually enjoy reading the Naruto manga (no lame fillers), I'm just sick of new wave fans acting all high and mighty mocking people who enjoy old school anime.

^ They don't really mock the fans so much as they mock the shows. I hate it when they mock the people who buy stuff instead of torrenting it.

on an interesting note, I was browsing the x-box live marketplace, and there is a ton of anime there

Actually there those who mock the fans for example when I was watching an old Tomino anime called Heavy Metal L-Gaim on the Crunchyroll site, someone with a Naruto avatar posted a comment stating something to like "old anime sucked and anybody who disagrees with me is a loser"

Definitely an excellent series. The storyline was good and we got to see a lot of interesting locations. Sunsa was an especially interesting one. The mechs were also cool and treated like any other vehicle in the show. As for the cons, there was a lot of stock footage , they reused the sound effects from Mobile Suit Gundam, and the main character, Chirco, kinda has the personality of a tree stump. Dispite that handicap he was still pretty cool even managing to
kill off god so he's alright in my book.

They shouldn't mock people who enjoy the old stuff or the shows, really, because it's fun to watch the old stuff and see what things are in the new. I've noticed parallels between Sailor Moon and some of the newer stuff, like how people supposedly die and then come back using the proverbial reset button.

Sailor Moon's finale was a GIANT reset, all the soldiers and give thier energies to Usagi to defeat Beryl, then POOF, everyone is back in Japan, not remembering anything

I see where you are getting at, I wonder what people like that are going to do when their favorite shows like Naruto and Bleach get decades old. I'm aware of L-Gaim and at some point I intend to watch it what are your views on the show?

I'm glad you liked it, I think they used those sound effects in Gundam Wing even so they get around lol. Chirico does seem cold but that's what I found refreshing about the series the main pilot wasn't a whiny teenager.

Season 1 was definitely a major reset button.

It was an enjoyable watch for me but not really one of Tomino's best work but still good. L-Gaim is one of Tomino's light hearted works that was released after Aura Battler Dunbine which had a tragic ending so he followed it up with L-Gaim, which was a he formula he did at the time. He does a tragic anime where many major characters die then follow it with a more light hearted action anime.

Sailor Moon S was the best in my opinion!

I am ticked off that Adult Swim stopped showing Morbito, I liked that series, well I am gointo the box set when it comes out!!

New news on that today. Looks like Moribito isn't dead on AS. It also looks like they're going to show the whole thing when it starts back up in the summer.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-05-09/report/moribito-to-return-to-adult-swim-tv-in-summer

Pssh, yeah right, forgive me for being skeptic, but I've been burned twice by them on the series. I might actually start watching AS again though just to see new dubbed episodes before I can get them on DVD.
