News Animated "Secret Warriors" to hit big screen (Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, more)

Isn't that pretty much a standard pairing at this point? I've seen pictures of them together a lot in the comics.

It's become a meme because there was a storyline early in the Ms. Marvel comic that featured Lockjaw and gave us the hilarious sequence I quoted from above. They hung around together for a few early issues, but from what I've read of the subsequent run of the comic, Lockjaw isn't a regular presence. Maybe other comics I haven't seen have paired them off again, but it would be in response to that original storyline and how much fun it was.

Yeah, I believe it was during the first Ms. Marvel arc that Medusa sent Lockjaw to Ms. Marvel.

I can be more specific. Vol. 3 (the first Kamala Khan issues) #7-11, 13, Vol. 4 #22, 31. For context, Vol. 3 is 19 issues. So he would have appeared in her second arc and about a third of her first volume. Ms. Marvel's Inhumans connections continued because they also featured prominently in the final arc of the first volume, but Lockjaw has been mostly absent.

There have been quite few YouTube videos posted about Marvel Rising on the Marvel HQ channel.

Some feature an introduction to a given character (or characters) by their respective voice actors:

Others are "Kamala Khanfidentials", a more in-universe (yet still fourth-wall-breaking) look:

While there are a few cast interviews, such as this one from SDCC:

I just watched Secret Warriors, and I liked it quite a bit. The writing was pretty good, and I mostly liked the characters. I'm finally sold on Kathreen Khavari as Ms. Marvel; Kamala was very effective and heroic here, and she made such a natural leader that I was surprised she didn't end up as the one officially in charge of the team. Nice to see some of her home life too. Her previous animated guest appearances that I've seen have done nothing to acknowledge her ethnic background or her family's culture, so it's nice to see that touched on at last.

Milana Vayntrub was suitably enthusiastic and fun as Squirrel Girl, if a bit shrill; and I felt Doreen was written somewhat out of character to force a conflict with Kamala, because they gave her a very black-and-white, bad-guys-are-irredeemable mindset that doesn't at all fit with the Squirrel Girl I love so much in the Ryan North comics, someone whose heroism comes from always seeing and inspiring the best in everyone, even supervillains. They even had her say "That's not who I am" later on.

I'm not really familiar with America Chavez, but she came off okay here, and I'm surprised they actually acknowledged that she had two mothers. But I gather that other animated shows have already broken that ground within the past few years. As for the others, Chloe Bennet was about her usual self as Daisy, and Tyler Posey was really pretty good as Dante/Inferno (ohhhh, I just got that!). I was underwhelmed by Kim Raver as Captain Marvel, but then, my primary exemplar for Carol Danvers is Jennifer Hale's performance in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and Hale is a hard act to follow. Also, CM's character design here is kind of weird.

Anyway, it was better than I expected, and I'm glad they're doing more.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors will be posted to the Marvel HQ YouTube channel this Wednesday; there'll be a live chat with as-yet-unnamed guests held during the premiere.

Looks like the video may be US-only, for the time being at least...

Well, that was underwhelming, so par for the course for Marvel Animation.

ETA: And I really, really hate that song.

It's also up on the Watch Disney website, and I'm assuming the app too. I don't do the app, but usually with these kinds of websites and apps what's on one is on the other too.

The episode is OK at best, but the music is still horrible.

It's okay for what it is, a show for young viewers. Its main problem is that it has too many characters to serve well in a 22-minute special; this needs either more movies or a weekly series.

Something tells me the moustachioed guy running the "Excelsior! Vegan Donuts" store was supposed to be Stan Lee. He passed away recently enough that he should've been able to record for this, so I wonder why they changed it.

I'm not sure how nut allergies work, but was it safe for Squirrel Girl to be handing out homemade nut bars while Patriot was standing right there?

It depends on how severe his allergy is, I'm allergic to peanuts, but my mom eats peanut butter while sitting a couple feet away from me and I never have any problems. Most people are fine as long as they don't eat them, it's just people with the most severe allergies that can't be around them, and I think that severity is fairly rare.
