Animate THIS...sucker!!

Star Trek has been animated, as we all know. Star Wars has as well. But aside from those two, and a few scifi movie (FINAL FANTASY) here and there, what SCIFI book series do you think, if done well and with quality, would be easy to translate into a great animated series???

I can see "Doctor Who" developing into an interesting animated series, although they sort of did that with the INFINITE QUEST serial. (Featuring Anthony Stewart Head in addition to Tennant and Ageyman). After all, the target of WHO has been a family-friendly audience.

The idea of a Doctor Who animated has been around for quite a while, too. In the 70s or early 80s Nelvana (Who did the older Star Wars toons) drew up some concept art for such a series, but it never really
materialized. There were also rumors of an animated revival around the time of the TV movie, as well.

Plus, I almost forgot, the webcasts that added (extremely limited) animation to some of the audio stories. (Not sure if there still online, but there was mainly REAL TIME, DEATH COMES TO TIME, SCREAM OF THE SHALKA and SHADA)

Then of course there's the fan-made Doctor Who Anime short film:

Firefly.

I honestly can't think of any other shows that would make a great transition to animation. I can think of a few novels that would make good animated films, however.

^Funny thing is, there's certainly some Japanese animation influence (Mainly from anime 'westerns' such as OUTLAW STAR, COWBOY BEBOP and TRIGUN) in FIREFLY.

I think "Brave Story" by Miyuki Miyabe would make an interesting Anime (theres allready been a game, btw)

Anne McCaffery's Dragonriders of Pern books would make a pretty sweet animated series.

I remember seeing a talk that Whedon did where he listed a ton of shows (mostly anime) that he had never seen and that definitely weren't an influence on Firefly. I'm thinking that any similarities to anime are just a coincidence. If someone can find a source that says differently though I'd love to see it.

Joss Whedon is a liar and a plagarist

The Hawmoon Runstaff saga by Micheal Moorcock.
It would also look great live action.
