Something has been bothering me. I saw this size comparison somewhere --

Looking at the depth of the two saucers, and of the nacelles, it looks that it should be more like this:

Or perhaps Sternbach's version would be even shorter. Am I right, or would these two versions of this ship really be about the same size?

Based on what Andrew has created, perhaps one or the other should be re-sized to bring them into the proper relative proportion.
Think of the shape of a bullet... or simply remember the ship design which precedes this one.Masao said:
I don't like how the secondary hull is so wide so near its front. Its widest point seems to be well forward of the deepest point of the ventral secondary hull. It makes the ship look a bit "wide-shouldered" rather than fast.
Right now you're only seeing the top half. Imagine a curved line coming off that leading edge, connecting to the base line of the (place-holder) pylons and you'll see where I'll be going with the lower half of that secondary hull.I think the hull might look better if its widest point were moved more towards the tail, at least to the deepest part of the ventral hull and maybe even as far back as the root of the nacelle pylons.
Just part of the process (or at least my process). If you look at the painting you can see that section ramps up over the torpedo bay. I'm just trying to get it to do that. The God Thing said:
It appears to me that the secondary hull forward of the docking collar is on the receiving end of a very painful pinch. If I may ask, is that an intentional design element or simply a flaw in the mesh?

The vertical impulse emitter is the ship's main impulse engine like the one (in it's place) was (or will be, in historical context) on the Galaxy. If you're asking if it is to be used in concert with the warp engines,.... that's a whole different issue.alpha8 said:
Do you intend on the vertical impulse drive to be only used during stardrive operation?
I haven't decided yet,... it's a pretty tight fit in there. I don't think Excelsior had them and Galaxy is void of control room windows, so based strictly on liniage, Ambassador shouldn't either. Also, are you going to have an observation/control room viewports for the secondary hull's shuttlebay?

I would very much like to see as many visual echoes of your NCC-1701 Refit as good taste and design integrity will permit, so that is a "HELL YEAH!" on the opium den-er, shuttlebay control room. Could you also perhaps sneak a little arboretum somewhere in the secondary hull too?

Take another look at the painting and you'll see a row of black windows,... already in place.
