Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin interview

Is there any chance you'll please post a transcript of your interview with Andy & Micheal? Thanks for posting this .

Listened to the podcast this evening while working, and enjoyed the interview. Nice job, and thanks for the heads-up!

I'm not exactly sure why anyone would prefer a transcript over a podcast. The podcast is about 74 minutes long and is a fine discussion with M&M.

I am a member of Treks in Sci-fi and have listened to Rico's weekly podcasts for some time. These are very well done and I think you will be surprised by the professionalism involved.

Andy and Michael, If you are reading this I would just like to say thanks for giving your time to discuss "Taking Wing" and your other projects. It just endeared both of you in my heart more than you already were. You're the greatest!

Kevin

I'm not exactly sure why anyone would prefer a transcript over a podcast.
I can think of several:

---person is hearing-impaired
---crappy 'net connection that makes downloading or streaming difficult
---insufficient space on hard drive to store podcast
---poor speakers on computer
---no speakers on computer
---public computer onto which one can't listen to or download podcasts
---computer in a place where listening to something is prohibitive (like a living room where other members of the household are present doing other things and the podcast would interfere)
---computer is used primarily by other people in the household who don't want the podcast on it

That's just off the top of my head....

I have a computer connection that doesn't like to download pod casts so it makes it alot easier for alot of people to be able to read transcripts of interviews. What did Andy & Micheal say about The Good that Men do? Any new about Kobayashi Maru?

OK you got me on that one Keith, but since this is Rico's 160th podcast without any transcripts I think I can safely say there will not be one now.

The tremendous amount of time it takes each week just to do an hour long podcast project would preempt any further work (such as transcribing) on the shows. At least not without volunteers to spend a lot of time doing the work and then Rico taking more of his time to read and edit the transcriptions etc. I'm thankful that there are people on other websites willing to undertake these kinds of tasks but right now I don't see Rico having those recourses available.

Unless a fan makes their own and seeks Rico's permission to upload it. ;)

It would also depend on the agreement he reached with the interviewees. ie. whether they were happy with the interview being presented in alternate ways.

You don't have to download the podcast, on the start page of TreksinSciFI you have to scroll down a bit, then there is a menu point on the right side named Podcast Player, there you should be able to hear the Podcast without downloading it.

Hi guys. This is Rico again and I'm the podcaster that interviewed M&M. A couple of things. As far as the transcript I myself don't have the ability to do that. This was more of a conversation between myself and Andy & Mike. So it would be very hard to distill that down. However, there is a web site out there that actually does speech to text conversions of podcasts. I've been trying to recall the name of the site but it's escaping me right now. But I will try to find it again and post the link here. It isn't an exact match but it might help for those that would rather read than listen. Also, as was pointed out above, you can go to my main web page (www.treksinscifi.com) and click the podcast player (on the right hand side). That always plays the most recent podcast. This current show will be there playing until next Sunday's show. Hope this helps and hope you will give some of my other podcasts a try when you can. I will try and find that link for the podcast text and post it soon.

Well, I found the site with at least partial text of podcasts. It's called Everyzing. One trouble is the text isn't perfect. They also seem to be running months behind on updates. hope this helps some. Here's a link to my shows:

Thanks Rico .I just finished listening to your podcast great interview and it was nice to hear how the writers created the alien characters for the Titan crew and them Talking about the Enterprise books. Especially writting The Good That Men Do and the upcoming Kobayashi Maru.I hope you'll let us know about interviewing Andy& Micheal again sometime when Kobayshi Maru comes out later this year. :bolian:

I've just started The Good That Men Do, the first of their books I've come across, and am quite impressed so far.

I'd be curious to know whether the inclusion of some rather obscure words is an unconscious product of an excellent vocab or if they just like sending readers running to dictionaries.

Well, either that or my own vocab isn't as comprehensive as I once thought...

If you don't mind answering, what word? I am trying to remember if I ran to the dictionary with that one. I do it plenty of times, but don't remember.

What a coinkydink... last night I began reading Taking Wing, the first Star Trek novel that I will have read in years.

How bizzah, how bizzah.

Great interview, but the authors forgot to mention the most important thing - the first non-English (AFAIK) edition of 'Taking Wing' ;)

Thanks for the compliments gang. I had read their two Titan novels before the interview. But after we were done talking I quickly went to Amazon.com to buy "The Good that Men Do." I didn't like the way "Enterprise" ended and I am really looking forward to reading this book. Several others I know that listened to the show have went out to buy this book and others too. I'll be sure to let everyone know if I get a chance to talk to them again in the future. Really interesting guys.
