Andromeda: How stupid were the Nietzscheans?

I think we can put a lot of it on Tribune. They interfered on Earth Final Conflict in much the same way. When The Matrix came out they made Lam Kincaid wear a long black trench coat for awhile. The show became more shoot 'em up and stupid after the first season just like Andromeda.

Which was a shame because Earth Final Conflict had a lot of potential in its first year.

Still putting characters into black trench coats because of The Matrix is a better idea than the suggestion from the UPN executive that wanted boy bands on the Enterprise each week.
IDK Ensign Pavel ('Davey Jones') Chekov came to be a pretty good character for TOS. (IE - Not all such suggestions turn out horrible. ;))

Well sure he worked out once they dumped the Davey Jones haircut that came along with that idea.:)

Weren't most of Roddenberry's TC pitches post-Star Trek of the post-apocalyptic variety anyway? Civilization in ruins shows?

Well in true GR fashion he pitched the same basic idea 3 times (and got 3 'pilots' - none of which got pick up):

Genesis II (1973) - TV Movie; but they hoped to spawn a series at CBS.

Planet Earth (1974) - Pilot/TV Movie; this time pitched to ABC with no luck.

Strange New World (1975) - A third retooling of the same basic premise, (again at ABC) but GR dropped out of participating in the final production.

But, ultimately Majel Roddenberry and RHW re-tooled the concept in 2000 after GR's death to make: "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda" which was basically (and initially though it changed drastically in later seasons) was 'Post Apocalyptic Star Trek' ;)

"The Dark Backward" was another one I liked. Tribune interfered with this episode a bunch because originally it was to tie into an earlier episode where they found part of an item called "the engine of creation" but that was all removed for more fight scenes and a story that made no sense if you didn't know about the previous connections. I still liked it but only because I knew what it was supposed to be.

"Those traitors aren't my people. Any Nietzschean who can't figure out that survival depends on the continued existence of the Commonwealth doesn't deserve to carry the name."

Ismael Khalid, The Banks Of The Lethe

Even Geharis Rhade felt similar things in that weird time travel episode where he comes back and gets a new scar on his hand.

And Tyr loses his bone blades but its never explained.
