Andromeda: How stupid were the Nietzscheans?

If you hear him tell the tale at conventions, he was on the side to KEEP Wolfe and his vision, albeit modified to let him fight and screw more on screen. Tribune wanted to reject the whole thing and make it Hercules In Space. Sorbo says t came down to a 3-2 vote to oust Wolfe and he was on the other side. He sounded sincere enough, but hey, what's truth fifteen years later?

Hey he out Kirks Kirk in that area

The first season of Andromeda is great Sci-fi.
From there on it is shit. No amount of "Heruclizing" it could make it better.
Such a waste of a show.

The Nietzscheans were a great character\race but doomed to always be infighting and proving their superiority over everyone else, including their own people. When you are genetically engineered to all be Alphas there are going to be a lot of fights.

The scene between Tyr and Becca and his explaining to her that having a relationship with her would be like being with a pet and his not understanding why she was upset by this sums up Nietzscheans well.

I'm not sure I would call it great but I do agree it was pretty good in season 1. Even in season 2 until Wolfe is fired. You can even notice the moment the show starts to suck with a actual episode. The zombies in space episode is the demarcation point where the show goes from good to bad.

I just noticed that one........ I just watched the episode with the Bellerophon and I liked that episode. Funny that ship didn't have light speed but Andromeda couldn't find it.

Mind you I haven’t watched the series in like 10 years, but I remember liking most of it.

Like nothing made me stop watching.

You're confusing him with Richard Dean Anderson.

Quite possibly. I just looked Keith up he did:

All My Children
Total Recall 2070
Suddenly Susan
Beastmaster
One On One
The Twilight Zone
Andromeda
The Young And The Restless

Seems his longest gigs were Andromeda and Young And The Restless

I do like the flashlights they use. They looked neat.

Okay, I'll agree "great" isn't the best adjective but it was well thought out, it was interesting and I looked forward to new episodes. Season two just nose dived into horribleness. I watched all five seasons because I'm a glutton for punishment.

After years of the utopian Federation is was refreshing to see a future where we got it all right and it all descended into chaos. But this was all before Hollywood became a "dystopian future" movie factory and beat that trope to death.

There's a number of stories of what went on. I think studio interference was a given but not sure about the story about Sorbo and his ego wanting to run the show.

I think we can put a lot of it on Tribune. They interfered on Earth Final Conflict in much the same way. When The Matrix came out they made Lam Kincaid wear a long black trench coat for awhile. The show became more shoot 'em up and stupid after the first season just like Andromeda.

That's what I liked about it. Basically doing a show about what it might look like if Starfleet and the Federation fell apart. PLus it had a very good cast of actors. The makeup wasn't so great but at least it was creative and stylish.

I don't know. I'm enjoying this 3rd time around...... I always enjoyed season 1 and 2 but 3 onwards it did become a bit of a struggle to watch the show apart from a few rare episodes which I did like, the most recent being Delenda Est.

I kind of forgot about the later seasons of "Earth Final Conflict' I don't know why but the idea of them making the character wear a trench coat because of "The Matrix" is so stupid I can't stop laughing. :guffaw: To be spider under the table in some of these Hollywood studio's would be lots of fun. Just hearing one bad idea after another from netowrks suits talking about their "great" idea's on how to improve ratings and so forth.

I'm watching the opening credits... And all I'm thinking is that this is an obvious Christian metaphor for the fall of Christian dominance and it's eventual return thanks to this space Jesus here... Which is not all that likely since despite that SuperChristian Kevin Sorbo is narrating, he wouldn't yet have the leverage to pull away from Gene's vision this early.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar and in this case, Roddenberry had the somewhat obvious plot of "What if the Federation fell at the hands of the Klingons?" It's basically the same plot as rebuilding the Jedi Order.

In the case of the Nieztscheans they're literally a bunch of people who metaphor a (bad) reading of Nieztsche as well as Randians (lots of references to her). They were always going to be people who didn't understand that naked self-interest was actually something that didn't benefit the many. Their entire culture is built around the premise of enlightened self-interest not existing let alone actual altruism. If you wonder why their women are conventionally beautiful and not practical then I point out that's the least of the issues of what seems to have been the pet project of a bunch of rich idiots in the distant past. It's a wonder they're not all white.

Mind you, the Nieztschean revolt wasn't all Nieztscheans and something like 40% of their race did fight for the System Commonwealth. That was another reason (other than time travel) that their plan failed spectacularly.
