Andromeda: Does anyone have this as their favourite show?

I don't like it because it means the actor has undue influence on the story lines...

Meh, the only time I ever heard a Sorbo story that annoyed me due to his influence was one from season.....3 maybe?

He's in a bunker in a stand off with some Neitichens. The script calls for him to be holding a dead mans switch where whenever he takes his finger off, Rommie fires a few missiles down to the bunker. thats why the bad guys cant just shoot him as the place would be vapourised, and he wins the standoff.

supposedly Sorbo didnt really grasp the concept of the deadmans switch so insisted it got played where every time he pressed the button Rommie fired a missile.

Which madei t stupid as the reason for the Nietz not shooting him disappears.

This story was in an interview years ago, though I forget if it was with Sorbo or someone else.

Alright, I'm a couple episodes into Season 2 and it definitely seems different to Season 1. I don't like how Kevin Sorbo is credited as a producer in Season 2...

Is Season 2 where the show begins a decline?
What's so bad about Kevin Sorbo being credited as a producer? A lot of shows include the lead actor as a producer after a season or two. It's a very common practice.

So? Why shouldn't actors be allowed to influence the story lines? They can do more than just read a script.
Hell, some of the best episodes of Psych were the ones written by the show's lead actor James Roday, and half of the casts of the different Trek shows directed some great episodes. Not to mention that Alan Alda wrote and directed plenty of good episodes of M*A*S*H*.
Actors have a long history of becoming more involved in a show's prodction as it goes on. They spend years working on these shows, so it makes sense they would start to get their own ideas for stories, and I really don't see why they should be prevented from doing that.
Actors often play a very big role in the development of their character, so coming up with stories is part of being an actor.

Well, at one point he also said that he felt the show's stories were getting too complex to follow and that they needed to change the direction of the series. But don't worry, (I'm paraphrasing here), he said, there will still be plenty of spaceship fights and explosions for the science fiction geeks.

The issue isn't an actor having significant influence in general, but rather the specific actor in question.

Hmm maybe he did, but personally I thought the show was very consistent over the first four seasons, so while he may have felt that, I dont recall seeing the show change particularly to accomodate that. (Wolfe left sure, but that ddnt bother me and I liked the episodes after that as much as before)

I've sid this before and I will say it again. Andromeda was not high classs art or anything when wolfe was there. It was a cheesey action show from the start. I enjoyed it but wont pretend it was somethng different before wolfe was ousted or blame Sorbo for "changing" it.

Andromeda had a great visual style in terms of ships, so nothng wrong with that. Plus it had huge space battles from the get go, the initial battle, the fleet he destroyed in the sixth epsiode etc... so its not like he introduced that to the show.

As an aside, there are many things from Andromeda, the ship design, sentient ships, avatars, "slipstream" being appreciably different from any standard warp, that I would have loved to see incorporated into Trek.

The show was good, then it wasn't. I remember seeing the pre-release stuff on the internet and thinking "This could be good despite Sorbo being in it." There was a whole history in place, cool ships, The Rodneberry pedigree, it had massive potential. But I have to agree with the others, after RHW left it went downhill and it went down it fast. Season 5 is unwatchable at best. Loved the crew of the Eureka Maru, The Magog were a great "Big Bad" and Rommie in any incarnation was nice to look at.

I did consider it one of my favorite shows for the first season and a half. But it started to change after that and not in a good way.
