Andromeda: Does anyone have this as their favourite show?

If Andromeda becomes so terrible after Season 1, how did it manage to last for 5 seasons? 5 seasons is a really long time, especially for a sci-fi show so it must have had a strong fanbase...
Most of the people who liked it from beginning to end just stayed away from message boards.

LOL, what?
Back in the caveman days of Dial-up Internet connections and dumb phones in the 1990s, online prescence was nowhere near what it is today. Even today, it's still only a fraction of the audience who goes on Message Boards and posts about shows.

From Seasons 1 - 4, it was in Syndication. S5 was where SciFi Channel purchased it for Season 5. But, even today, what you see on Message boards, isn't necessarily a good measure of what the General Audience thinks of a show, no matter how much we all like to believe everyone thinks just like us.

Witness NuBSG, critically acclaimed, fans raved about it on Message boards, but, it didn't have a much bigger audience than Enterprise. The only thing that kept it going through all 4 Seasons was the Prestige of Critical Acclaim. It certainly wasn't a big money maker, and never would've survived that long without the ciritical praise.

And then of course, there are a great number of shows that looking at Message Boards, you'd think the audience hated them, yet, they do quite well in the ratings, and your average man on the street would speak well of the show.

I really liked Andromeda at the time. It was definitely low budget, but had a well thought out universe and some great concepts. I got into because Robert Hewitt Wolfe was involved. He spent the first season building concepts that really started to pay off in the second season, and according to the synopsis of his full series plan it had the potential to be some great sci fi. Many episodes that seem one-offs in the beginning actually tie in to greater elements of the story.

It was also one of the first series that developed a web presence and used its web page to add layers of story telling to the series itself.

Then, of course, Wolfe was forced out and the whole thing fell apart because Kevin Sorbo couldn't understand the story or something.

Ah, alright. I didn't realise Sci-Fi picked up the show at S5. Was there a big 'atmospheric change' in S5 in terms of the stories or characters?

Alright, I'm a couple episodes into Season 2 and it definitely seems different to Season 1. I don't like how Kevin Sorbo is credited as a producer in Season 2...

Is Season 2 where the show begins a decline?

2X12 Oroborous is the last episode with Robert Hewlitt Wolfe in charge. You'll notice "changes" immediately after that

Alright, I'll keep an eye out.

Does that mean the show begins to slide from episode 12?

Depending on your point of view, but I thought there some good stories though the end of the fourth season. The budget fell and the fifth season was a real drop for the show.

Well, it seems like almost everyone says this from what I've read. Does anyone disagree?

You'll simply have to continue watching and make up your own mind as to whether you like what comes. Just because some people didn't care for how things were handled, doesn't mean you'll hate it.

What's so bad about Kevin Sorbo being credited as a producer? A lot of shows include the lead actor as a producer after a season or two. It's a very common practice.

I don't like it because it means the actor has undue influence on the story lines...

To be fair, today, especially younger people don't even know what a BBS is. It's like asking them to joing you for a chat on IRC or asking them for their ICQ number. They just shrug and proceed to use their favorite social app of the month. :p

What do these young whipper snappers go on to find other people's overly negative opinions of tv shows and movies then????? :wtf:

No.

We had a meeting last night on the internet and it was unanimous.

:borg:

The star of the show is going to have influence even without the producer title slapped on. if the star talks to the showrunner about stuff they want or don't want that showrunner is going to pay attention. Doesn't mean they'll do it but they'll at least consider it. Being the star gives you power.
