I think the worms Nero used on Pike were a reference to Wrath of Khan. Didn't he say they were "Alpha worms" or something?

As for the Mother parasite, I have to wonder how the heck something that big got inside Remmick to begin with. Was it smaller at first and grew bigger to the point it devoured his innards? Was it like the bug from Men in Black?

Actually, those 'bugs' were from Ceti Alpha... so Nero called them 'cetian' or something like that. Liked the tie in to WoK and the new movie

Well, it's supposed to look like a bigger fatter version of the smaller parasites.

Did Probert design the Ferengi ships as well? Maybe it was just him re-using his own design biologically without realizing it.

That's always something that puzzled me about "Conspiracy" — when they phaser open Remmick's chest and you see the 'mother' in there, she's basically filled up his entire chest cavity. All the usual organs — heart, lungs, stomach, liver — are missing in action. How did Remmick not only stay alive, but not look like a zombie, what with the lack of a functioning respiratory, circulatory, and digestive system?

I'd guess that mama bug was dealing with all of those functions - taking good care of the host makes it easier to blend in and get close to the unsuspecting people.

Also, I think that picture made an appearance in the tenth anniversary hardcover about the behind the scenes stuff (cannot recall the name of it at all), because I seem to recall seeing in.
