Andorians and the Chiss

This is something I've been thinking about lately and it kinds of bugs me because I think both franchises built upon the same or similar things. Other than the two races being from ice cold worlds and having blue skin, are there any other similarities between the two? At first glance, you'd think the Chiss were a warrior race but according to the Star Wars wiki, they're actually a non-violent race. The Andorians, however, have been shown to be a warrior race and have conquered many worlds as they expanded their empire. The Chiss seem to be unfortunate, fighting in all those wars when they're really not violent. Is that even true? I always assumed the Chiss, while xenophobic, were a warrior race with a high sense of honor and smarts to know when to go to war and when not to. They may be cautious but when it comes down to it, they're good fighters.

Thoughts?

Well, you yourself point out a key difference between them. I don't see any similarity beyond the blue skin and the ice-world origin, and the latter hasn't always been part of Andorian lore; it was postulated in noncanonical Trek roleplaying games in the '80s and '90s, and wasn't made part of canon until a 1998 RPG sourcebook was used as a reference by the producers of Enterprise in 2005.

So really there's no significant similarity here. There are plenty of blue-skinned aliens in SF (seen Avatar yet?), and plenty of ice worlds in SF. It's no surprise that there might coincidentally happen to be more than one franchise with blue-skinned aliens living on ice worlds, particularly since people tend to associate blue skin with freezing cold.

And in threads here as well...

"Andorian Ice Powers" ;)
