I felt it was better this way. Sometimes, in a revolution, people we love will die. Heroes we look up to will die. It's the idea that a revolution is bigger than just one person, that it is the active resistance of many people is what makes a revolution even possible. So Maarva had to die, if for no other reason than to light the fire and pass the torch on to others, who would carry it further until everyone was finally free.

Yes. As long as her personal life is connected to Cassian's arc, I believe it will be important next season. But I found it to be a waste for Season One, because in no shape or form was Mon Mothma connected to Cassian. Honestly, Lucasfilm could have easily created a separate limited series for her than to allow her personal arc to pad the series the way it did for this first season.
As long as all of this ends up being connected to Cassian somehow, I agree. If it doesn't, then I would blame Gilroy for failing to connect Mon's arc to Cassian's. This is supposed to be his show. It is called "Andor", after all.
I don't agree. This could have been saved for Season 2, if her family is somehow connected to Cassian's arc. Why? Because this is supposed to be Diego Luna's show. It's not supposed to be Luna and O'Reilly's show.

The main thing about Mon Mothma is that she will be the leader of the Rebel Alliance. What we see here is that she is already helping the Rebellion via money, but it was getting harder as the ISB started watching everyone in power. Why she's in the "Andor" show is that we see consequences of Luthen and Andor's actions. The Heist causes the Empire to crack down hard and what should have been a means to repair the monetary damage in Mon's bank accounts turned into a near witch hunt that needed her to tie her family to a criminal to successfully shield the funding going to the Rebellion and divert the Empire's gaze for just another day. It keeps her in the long game of taking out the Emperor, but Andor's actions had effect all the way up to the top of the Rebel food chain.
I know what Mon Mothma will become. I know all of this. I've been watching Star Wars movies since I was a kid. But this series is supposed to be about CASSIAN ANDOR. The title of this series is "ANDOR". I don't like the idea of another character nearly dominating a series or movie in which he or she IS NOT supposed to be the main character. It was simple too much of Mon Mothma and she had no connection with Cassian Andor in this season. If Tony Gilroy had wanted to explore Mothma's backstory that badly, he should have considered creating another series or limited series.
This isn't about arbitrary rules. This is about good and bad writing to me. And let me repeat myself. This series is called "ANDOR". It's "ANDOR". It's not "ANDOR AND MOTHMA". This series, based on its title, is supposed to be about Cassian Andor becoming part of the Rebellion. For me, there is no reason why this series should explore Mon Mothma's backstory with this level of depth during Season One, when it has not revealed any connection between her and the series' main character, Cassian Andor. You don't have to agree with me. And I'm certain you don't. But do not count me as one of those who feel that "Andor" was perfect or near perfect. I liked it. I didn't love it. End of story.

By your logic Civil War should be labeled Captain America and Iron Man have a disagreement, where Iron Man is slightly in the wrong.
How do you cope with stories that don’t label the main character at all?
have you considered that Andor might not be the main character, but the catalyst for the events of the story?
Hopefully that gets rid of that annoying Han Solo character.
It's pretty clear that Andor is the main character, with supporting characters from Mon and Luthen. But, like Macbeth, there are characters who take importance depending on the act of the work, including having monologs in those works. Like the tightening focus of the Empire on Andor and associates activities, the show tightened the stories together of the main and secondary characters.
Wait until people find out Raffi, Seven and Jurati actually have time and story material devoted to them in PIC. And Picard isn't on screen during some of that.
