Spoilers Andor season one

They shouldn't have given away that ship scene in the early trailer.

Well that episode was deeply upsetting on a number of levels. I think this is the first time that a droid has really been treated like a person to the point of exhibiting signs of depression, grief, and even denial.
That was upsetting, probably made worse that it can speak.

That's why I've missed most of the past few years of The Walking Dead. It just wasn't delivering most of the time anymore and I lost interest.
The last hiatus really killed me, I have like 4 or 6 to get to the finish line, I get the sunk cost fallacy but I'm like damn after so long I just want to wrap it up and it's been so exhausting to get there.

I'll watch the last episodes for closure but man, did the show go downhill after Rick left and the time jump.

It did, but I'm not sure they're being honest with these being the final episodes. The just introduced smart zombies and now they are going to end the show? Maybe a spin off is in the works. And there are a couple of characters who just disappeared. No explanation.

I'm speculating that Cass will keep clear of Ferrix, as he knows that he's on the authorities' radar. But we shall see.

With movies & shows now I watch the trailer when they're out and then that's it, one (view) and done. And then usually by the time the thing is actually out I've forgotten half of it. (didn't remember this ship at all for example)

It's not good to be overanalysing trailers, looking at every frame for minute detail. As you just end up not enjoying the movie/whatever and just waiting for half the things to happen.

Welcome to fandom.

Unfortunately, this seems to drive some of the more extreme nitpicky style behavior. I recall online discussion annoyed at TFA because Finn was a stormtrooper and black and not a clone. Yup, that's the takeaway...

Which would have been extremely annoying even if it hadn't been driven by racism. Stormtroopers serving the Galactic Empire were almost entirely recruits and draftees and very few Clones from the Republic Era were retained once the new Imperial military structure was put in place. Finn was never going to be a Clone because his forerunners in the Empire's military weren't. That train of thought ended with the Clone Wars and the Sith Lords deciding they no longer had a need for cloned soldiers since, hey, the wars have been won and now we pacify and police the galaxy. Don't need millions of Jango Fett clones for that, just dedicated people willing to follow orders and salute the new flag.

A lot of self-professed "fans" don't even pay attention to the franchise they claim to watch.

I take it you don't pay attention to Walking Dead news? There are three spin-offs in the works which will pick after the series ends and focuses on particular characters in their post-series lives. Two of which are already filming and one of which, titled Dead City is due to premiere in April 2023.

And the "smart zombies" were not "just introduced," they were there in the first season. The writers and producers have admitted they stopped using them due to them being inconvenient for story purposes but decided to bring them back with this being the final season. They were also featured in the post-credit scene in the season two finale of the spin-off series World Beyond last year.

But we probably should get back to discussing Star Wars.

Like I said, a lot of fandom is just about being angry. It's very reactionary, emotionally driven, and impulsive.

There were people who genuinely believed Stormtroopers were clones because of the prequels.

People who only watched the movies and had no EU context.

There was also the assumption that the Empire was racist against color due to there being no people of any color in the Empire in the OT, though that was more that most scenes on Star Destroyers or the Death Star used local British extras around 1980 with the shooting being "Space Nazis".

Stormtroopers being clones is not a new idea. Below is an article from issue #3 of the Star Wars Official Poster magazine from 1977.
No one said it was new. Only that it was stupid to say "oh, there can't be a black stormtrooper because they're all clones...":brickwall:

I'm really enjoying Andor in spite of my reservations about how appropriate it is for the Star Wars universe, this tweet is pretty good:

Honestly this is part of why I love Star Wars. It's a big enough sandbox that you can have gritty, paranoid spy thrillers and cute, light-hearted furry aliens. Mystic knights with grand destinies and world-weary mercenaries just trying to eke out a living in the Wild West. There's something for everyone in this galaxy.

Tony Gilroy has already said they are going to hit some canon beats in Season 2 that happen over the 4 years that Season 2 covers.
I trust Tony Gilroy will make gold out of season 2 but after watching season 1 I'm finding it harder and harder to imagine squeezing 4 years into one last season. I hope they at least get a higher episode count...

One of the things I like about this show is how it allows you to stop, think and backtrack. SW (Ep 4) is a feel-good heroes journey based on Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress" with a lot of other mythology sprinkled in, particularly Arthurian. Luke is the young Arthur, Kenobi is his Merlin, and lost just like Merlin as Mallory (and Stewart) writes him when he is entombed in the Crystal Cave by Nimue but can still communicate through dreams. Han Solo is Lancelot, Leia Guinevere, and the droids his loyal squires.

With Andor, we get to see how some of the puzzle pieces fit together. The base on Yavin, the X-wings and Y-wings... how did it all happen? That shit had to be procured and paid for somehow, or there is no Battle of Yavin and the Death Star survives. It all starts years before with guys like Andor and Luthen, Mon Mothma, Jyn and Galen Erso, Saw Guerrera, and others. It all has to come together in order for a superstar (Arthurian) Jedi hero to fire that miracle shot down the main reactor shaft. Without Kino, Luke never gets to take that shot, but Luke never even knows Kino existed. Now, as the audience, we do know, and can appreciate the difference his sacrifice makes, even though he never sees that sunset.

and that is the main payoff of this series, and Rogue One before it. It's about that butterfly effect- one man is mistakenly transferred back into the same prison, and from there you can connect the dots to Luke destroying the Death Star and following that, the death of Palpatine and the Empire.
