And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek fans

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

Interesting. You're the one making bigoted remarks yet I'm the one with the hatred. Is that simply your fallback position, to accuse people of hatred after you spout it?

The point of the link that I posted had nothing to do with orientation, it had to do with the bizarreness of certain Trek fans and how it gives Trek fans a bad reputation.

The point of JoeZhang's post was to point out that it's not limited to Trek Fans, but other areas of fandom as well and he pointed out a far more extreme example. This has nothing to do orientation it has do with the extremes that some fans go to.

You're comment was the only one I went after because you made a direct attack against a classification of people based upon their classification. If there was violence associted with that it would be considered a hate crime.

No one else did that.

My brother-in-law who I love dearly and who I have chosen to be the Godfather of my son who is due in March, is gay. So the next time your argument fails after you post hate speech, I suggest that learn a little about who you're attacking.

As to the original post, nerds will be nerds, and frankly I don't care, unless he actually manages to get the casual lay he's after. Then I'll be upset that someone even more nerdy than I am can somehow manage that and I have trouble getting the time of day. :vulcan:

I did. A normal person would read my post and see the humor, rather than look for non-existant insult.

Fact, you chose to post a sex ad for humorous effect.
Fact, I chose to respond in a humorous fashion.
Fact, you chose to attack me for my response.
Fact, many people who harbor prejudice chose to hide it by claiming they have a dear friend who is also_____ (gay, straight, black, Jewish, hispanic, other).
Fact, now that I have learned a little about who you are, I shall now choose to ignore you. You are not worth the time it would take to further respond to you. :vulcan:

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

Even if it was meant in jest, the same could be said for other jokes which are bigoted. Just move on already.

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

It could have been worse. He *might* have been in uniform.

As is typical of all radicals, you're taking the facts and pointing to them out of context despite that the context was explained to you using small words, no less.

Again, you have nothing to fall back on except to accuse me of being bigoted when you're the one spouting bigoted rhetoric.

You have no argument. Can't you just admit you were wrong and apologize, or do straight people not deserve any respect?

As, far as my brother-in-law is concerned, the point wasn't to point out that I have friends and family who are gay, the point was that he's going to be my son's Godfather.

If I had a problem with homosexuality, do you think I would have chosen a gay man who lives with his partner to be the spiritual guide for my son for the rest of his life? For those of us of Faith, that's a really big f'ing decision that we don't take lightly.

Grow up, stop spouting offensive hate-filled rhetoric and learn how to say that you were wrong and that you were sorry for being offensive.

WTF is so hard about that? You made a lousy, dumbassed comment. Man up already.

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

There are people with all interests I'm sure that would be willing to post... peculiar ads... unfortunately...

But, I just wanted to say- that was a neat image you posted, Captain X!!

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

OK, I was expecting there might be some issues with this thread, but not the direction its headed.

Everyone get back on topic and I'll keep it open.

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

It's in Craigslist, nobody should be surprised. :rommie: Of which I should go there to amuse myself at the personals when I'm bored.

It could have been worse. He *might* have been in uniform.
No, it could have been really worse. He might have talked like a Klingon.

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

We're supposed to believe that you accidentally typed 'Star Trek' into the personals section? Please.

lol i had a similar thought. sure... "accidentally" clicked on personals instead of for sale. ;)

eh, i guess at least it wasn't, "i accidentally clicked on erotic and typed in star trek." :D

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

Naw. We have a bad rep because of this bitch:

Barbara Adams.

Wow. Looks like Roy Orbison's long-lost sister goes to a Trek Con! :wtf: -- RR

LOL, touché!

It bothers me she wore a phaser to do jury duty.

It bothers me more she wears a fictitious weapon in general. IT'S NOT VERY PEACEFUL BARBARA!

It bothers me the most that she abuses uniform guidelines with aviator sunglasses that are four times bigger than her head.

Actually... do any of the people from Trekkies/Trekkies 2 visit yonder bbs? I could be in for the flaming of a lifetime if she sees my disapproval

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

You guys do know that there is a dedicated Trek dating site as well "Trek Passions"? I didn't even know things like that existed until a friends user name returned a link to it on google. I thought it was a mistake until I checked the profile.

I mean, seriously. :wtf:

Re: And we wonder why the general public has a bad impression of Trek

I don't see why listing Star Trek as an interest amongst other interests is so horrible??? Am I the only one missing this?
