And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Now we know why Tubi is so popular. They get all the stuff the other places discard and most of it is better than what the other places keep because they only keep newer stuff, which most of it is just not that good. Plus bad older stuff is more fun to watch than bad new stuff. Every cheesy 80's movie is worth more than some lame bad movie made in 2019 that lacks the fun you could get away with in older movies. Unless your good movie or tv show of high quality or a well regard indie type of film you just don't have much value in bad modern movies. Way to many generic action or spy movies or the 500th movie about the big city character going back to their hometown to get over whatever emotional issues they are going through. Out of those 500 most of them are about struggling writers or CEO's who are burned out.

Yes, agreed! I've watched so much good stuff on Tubi, much of it older. There are many gems I've heard of on the service that often don't hit theatres in certain markets.

It does, but even their agreements expire; I woke up one morning to discover that Babylon 5 and Mystery Science Theater 3000 had both vanished from Tubi. Fortunately they moved to the Roku Channel, so I still have access, but this is why I still buy stuff on physical media from time to time.

They vanished, and now they're both back on Tubi again. I hate this shit. :p

edit: Just to clarify, I was reiterating that B5 and MST3K had vanished from Tubi, but as of today they're back (not sure when they actually came back; this was the first time I'd visited Tubi in two weeks), and they're also still on the Roku Channel.

Precisely why I have dvd box sets.
Yep. With streaming services, we are all subject to the whim and fate of the curators and licensees of said-platforms. If the platform dies and it’s the only one with a particular series or movie due to exclusive licensing, that production dies with it, never to be seen again (legitimately). With physical media, I get to watch what I want, when I want, because I own it. It is the ultimate leverage in market populism.

One day I hope that Netflix decides to start distributing some of their content on disc. I would like a copy of Dark Crystal and several other titles. And I’m hoping physical media will enjoy a resurgence in the near future, in the same odd way that vinyl, and even cassette tapes have made a kind of perverse revival.

Oh gods yes.

There's some movies on there I would love a physical release of.

Controversial Opinion here but there are some movies on Netflix I really like and want

Red Notice
6 Underground
Spectral
I Am Mother
All 3 seasons of Lost In Space

Just to name a few

MST3K has a YouTube channel that runs marathons of all the seasons, as well as 'Themed' marathons, and individual episodes.

The first two seasons of Stranger Things came out on both Blu-ray and UHD as Target exclusives and the packaging looked like VHS tapes. Sales must've been horrible because they just sat there collecting dust until they finally went on clearance. They weren't even that high-priced to begin with.

If I had a proper DVD player (just an unreliable external player for my laptop), I would buy them. A shame they didn't get love in sales they deserve.

That's the thing about store exclusives. Could have been more successful if they hadn't made it an exclusive, which automatically leaves out anyone who doesn't live in a market served by Target. It has the side-effect of artificially propping up the streaming-version of the show.

My local library system must have gotten them cheap, because I still see them on the DVD shelf when I'm checking out movies.

Even more niche than that: Not everyone who has a Target goes to one or orders from them.

Even more niche than that: several months ago, Target stopped selling movies and TV on physical media in-store; it's only available through their website. So I doubt they'll be doing anything like that in the future.
