And the Next Cancelled Show is...

BREAKING NEWS!

Netflix is looking into doing a House of Cards spinoff. But yeah, I'm sure canceling it and looking into a spinoff on the same day Kevin Spacey comes out as a pedophile aren't related.

Just kill off / jail FU and focus on Claire.

How would they do a spin-off? Frank and Claire are the primary characters. Spacey is rightfully radioactive now and if the focus is shifted to Wright (as it should be anyways), then why bother with the spin-off (other than perhaps lame rebranding)? What's the point of doing anything that's not with the Underwoods. Remy is the only interesting character outside of them and he's not strong enough to sustain his own series and Mahershala Ali is too big of a name now anyways.

How would they do a spin-off? .

From TVLine....

House of Cards is nearing its term limit soon, but tales of a certain Underwood staffer might go on.

Netflix is in the early stages of developing a spinoff of the Emmy-winning political drama, according to a report from our sister site Variety. The streaming service and production company Media Rights Capital are mulling several ideas for the spinoff, including one focused on President Frank Underwood’s ruthless chief of staff Doug Stamper, played by three-time Emmy nominee Michael Kelly. The other ideas haven’t been revealed yet, but all would take place in the same universe as the original House of Cards.
The spinoff news comes on the same day Netflix announced that House of Cards would end after its upcoming sixth season, slated to air next year. Series star Kevin Spacey is facing accusations of making a sexual advance towards actor Anthony Rapp when Rapp was 14 years old, but Netflix says the decision to end the series was made months ago, and isn’t related to the scandal. (The network did say it was “deeply troubled” by Rapp’s allegations.)

Netflix has been around 20 years, and this is how you handle the show that made Netflix famous? Just issue a statement like the creators did going "We are upset with what happened but I have never seen it on the set" and move on. You then announce a 6th season, then maybe hint at it being the last, maybe exploring the universe more.

But honestly just kill him off and have 1+ seasons with Claire instead of a horrible idea of a spinoff.

Well she did write it, only the process has now been circumvented.

Did you watch the series, I would have loved a review of it from you. You are unique

I participated excessively in the main thread, which gets a little silly, because Christopher has me on ignore, and kept repeating what I was saying, or answering the same questions I was, because, where it counts least, we are similar.

Main thread? Is there a whole thread about Timeless?

I already felt they were winding down, anyhow. They should be anyway, as I was already starting to feel like they were stretching themselves thin on the story by season 4 and 5. Now season 6 is going to feel rushed, having to tie up all the loose ends.

Yeah, I'm fine with the show ending either way, especially with how the show ended last season. I just don't see a spin-off working. I like Doug but I don't think he's a strong enough character to have his own spin-off.

Molly Parker is a drug that makes me happy.

How about she fights Doug, until they die in each other's arms at the end of the season?

Yeah, me neither. As much as I like Claire, I also can't see a spinoff focusing on her either. Part of the fun of the series was the dynamic between them both. It didn't quite work for me with her in the hotseat. Don't see a Doug spinoff either, because like you say, he's not a strong enough character, besides, what would we follow, exactly?

I realized one way they could solve this:
Have Claire kill off Francis in the season opener. Would be in keeping with the original British version. Rest of the season would deal with all the evidence come crashing down on her, while realizing she's not in the clear. Then they could have the one that was close to winning come in and take over the position he feels he was rightfully owed via election.

I was really hoping it would go the way the original did, with Claire and the bodyguard teaming up to bump Francis off.

Does anyone know how far along they were?

They were about 4-6 weeks into filming.

Honestly the show had about 2 seasons left in it I felt. Just have the war between them for X amount of episodes and then kill Frank off and have the rest of the season or a 7th season on her downfall.

But studios everywhere, please learn this is not how you handle things! They should have just kept their months shut yesterday and came out with a plan today.
