And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Variety reports that Netflix has cancelled Sense8. :(

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,”,” said Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix original content. “It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”
I worried this might happen considering how expensive it is and how little chatter I've heard about the second season. Such a shame considering how rushed and rough the final episode felt.

Netflix also cancelled something called "The Get Down," and there are indications of more Netflix cancellations in the future.

"We should have a higher cancel rate overall."--Netflix Founder and CEO Reed Hastings

Yeah, I heard about both of those items. In fact, as soon as I heard the "desire" to cancel shows, Sense8 was the first show I feared would be on the chopping block. I hate being right. :(

The Get Down is one of the most expensive TV shows ever made. Like $120 million....an absolutely insane amount. Netflix is loaded for sure, but The Get Down had better be a smash for them, given the production expense. It wasn't, so I'm sure they're glad to get that off their books.

Season one of Sense 8 was about the people bannering together.

Season 2 was about those people fighting the baddies.

Season 2 was more grim less fun, maybe?

Sense 8 season one I thought cost $100+ million, that's insane!

Word from one of the producers was that it ran about 9M per episode. But JMS said that a globe-spanning show is exactly what Netflix wanted.

Yes, but then no one watched... You can't make a 90 million dollar show and not get the ratings.

Given that Netflix doesn't reveal any viewing data, I'd be interested in seeing your source for that statement, of course. But even before yesterday's announcement there was a fair amount of concern at the lack of promotion for the show.

That's kind of my source. Netflix brags about their viewers, like season two of Fuller House had more viewers in the first weekend of season 2 release than watched season 1.

But they never talked about Sense8 besides how much it cost. If it was making them money they wouldn't have canceled it. Supposedly House of Cards cost an insane amount too, but they talk about it.

Because fear sells.......

Keep terrorism in the minds of the public even if it's a TV show. Keep them cautious, keep them scared.

But I think the American people are finally sick of 24 being the same crap over and over again. They only watched for Sunderland.

That said when Trump allows a terrorist attack to happen because it be good for him and he's lazy, then I think 24 might be popular again.
