And the Next Cancelled Show is...

‘Blood & Oil’ Order Cut To 10 Episodes By ABC

Another new drama series is seeing its original 13-episode order trimmed. ABC has downsized the pickup of Blood & Oil to 10 episodes. The series is currently filming Episode 8 and will wrap production after completing its tenth episode. Blood & Oil will end its freshman run in December and will remain in its Sunday 9 PM slot, at least for now.

The soapy drama, set in the oil fields of North Dakota, launched with a soft 1.4 Live+Same Day rating in adults 18-49. Since then, it has slipped to a 1.3, 0.9 and 0.9. The sprawling series airs in one of the toughest time slots on television at the moment, Sunday 9 PM, as it faces both NBC’s Sunday Night Football and the AMC’s juggernaut The Walking Dead. Its DVR lift has been modest to OK, in the 30 percent range in Live+3.

Blood & Oil revolves around a young couple (Chace Crawford, Rebecca Rittenhouse) who move to North Dakota where a local oil baron (Don Johnson) takes the guy under his wing. The series, from ABC Studios, underwent a showrunner change as it had faced production challenges filming on location in Utah.

In addition to Blood & Oil, the 13-episode orders of Fox’s Minority Report and NBC’s The Player were cut down to 10 and 9 episodes, respectively.

Dammit! There are only so many posts the board can handle!!! We must conserve for future generations!.

‘Limitless’ Receives Full-Season Order From CBS, ‘Code Black’ Gets 6 Scripts

The three strongest new dramas this season now all have received full-season orders, with CBS’ Limitless joining NBC’s Blindspot and ABC’s Quantico. CBS just gave its first Back 9 order for the season to the series follow-up to the movie starring Bradley Cooper.

Meanwhile, new CBS medical drama Code Black has received an order for six backup scripts. No decision yet on the network’s new comedy Life In Pieces. Of the three, only Limitless is fully owned by CBS.

“We’re excited how Limitless continues to evolve creatively each week and stand out with its unique style of storytelling,” said Glenn Geller, President of CBS Entertainment. “It’s off to a strong start in a highly competitive environment.”

Based on the 2011 feature, Limitless is this season’s No. 2 new series among total viewers with an average of 11.43 million. In adults 18-49, it is averaging a 2.4, up 9% from last year’s time period. The freshman drama has won its Tuesday 10 PM time period in viewers every week since its September 22 premiere. Also, it’s one of CBS’ top series in multiplatform viewing, including a series premiere that saw its audience increase 79% and its adults 18-49 rating jump, up 132% from its Live+Same Day average.

Also some good news for Code Black:

Meanwhile, Code Black, toplined by Marcia Gay Harden, has been a modest performer, but it appears to have stabilized after the initial post-premiere slump, logging a 1.2 in 18-49 (L+SD) for the past two Wednesdays.

Limitless stars Jake McDorman, Jennifer Carpenter, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Hill Harper. Craig Sweeny, Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, Heather Kadin, Marc Webb, Bradley Cooper, Todd Phillips, Ryan Kavanaugh, Tucker Tooley and Tom Forman are executive producers for CBS Television Studios in association with K/O Paper Products and Relativity Television.

It’s been a strong fall for new drama series with four dramas receiving full-season orders to date, Blindspot, Limitless, Quantico (Back 7 episodes — originally 6, later upped to 7 ) and Fox’s Rosewood vs. only one comedy series, ABC’s Dr. Ken.

I could barely sit through the pilot of Limitless, it wasn't bad it just didn't interest me.

I keep telling people to start with the second episode of Limitless. It's way better and more in line with how the series presents itself. It's very fun.

‘Monica The Medium’ Renewed For Season 2 By ABC Family

On tomorrow night’s season finale, Monica does her first group reading with mothers who have lost their children.

‘From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series’ Renewed For Season 3 On El Rey Network

Ahead of its October 27 Season 2 finale, El Rey Network has renewed From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series for a third season.

A reimagining of Robert Rodriguez’s 1996 movie, which Miramax released theatrically at the time, the TV show expands on the supernatural crime saga revolving around brothers Seth and Richie Gecko. Season 3 will continue their saga as they fight the culebra underworld.

D.J.Cotrona stars as Seth Gecko and Zane Holtz as Richie Gecko, along with Jesse Garcia, Eiza González, Wilmer Valderrama, Madison Davenport, Brandon Soo Hoo, Jake Busey, Danny Trejo, Esai Morales, Jeff Fahey and Briana Evigan. Demi Lovato guest stars in the last two episodes of Season 2.

‘Married’ Canceled By FX After 2 Seasons

FX has opted not to renew comedy series Married for a third season. Both Married and You’re The Worst last year were picked up for second seasons based on FX brass’ faith in the creative. But ratings have been soft, with Married‘s recently concluded second season ranking as the lowest-rated FX series so far this year, down sharply from last year. Its Live+Same Day averages were 410,000 viewers, down 40% from Season 1, and 0.19 rating in 18-49, down 46%. In Live+3, the Season 2 finale drew 593,000 viewers and 388,000 adults 18-49.

Whaaaaaat.... The male lead if so fucking ugly, but good lord look at the wife!

And it's funny, Married is a actually funny, but I can't imagine it's cheap.

You're the Worst is in danger too, and that is thoroughly unacceptable.

First, the good news:

‘The Grinder’ Gets Full-Season Order From Fox

Fox’s The Grinder has became the second new series this fall to get a Back 9 order, bringing its freshman run to a full-season 22 episodes. It joins ABC’s Dr. Ken. The Grinder, starring Rob Lowe, is one of two new Fox comedies toplined by 1980s heartthrobs, along with the John Stamos starrer Grandfathered. Both shows have done so-so in the ratings but have been well reviewed and are very well liked internally at Fox. (Grandfathered has done slightly better in the ratings, while The Grinder has had an edge in positive reviews.) The Grinder is fully owned by Fox, while Grandfathered is a co-production between ABC Studios and 20th Century Fox TV. Pickup conversation between Fox and ABC Studios are ongoing, with a back order for Grandfathered expected. Fox earlier this month gave both The Grinder and Grandfathered orders for 6 backup scripts.

“The Grinder is the perfect combination of razor-sharp wit and relatable family dynamics — two hallmarks of successful comedies,” said Fox entertainment president David Madden. “The critics have embraced this original, fresh and funny show, and the talented cast – led by Rob Lowe and Fred Savage — have done such an incredible job infusing it with biting humor and heartfelt moments.”

Now, the bad news:

‘Truth Be Told’ Order Cut To 10 Episodes By NBC

This is becoming a trend this fall as the networks are not as trigger happy as previous years and don’t yank underperforming new series off the schedule abruptly. Instead, the nets are trimming the lower-rated newcomers’ original 13-episode orders and allowing them to air all produced episodes in their designated time slots. The latest example is NBC’s new comedy series Truth Be Told. Following two very low-rated airings (0.7 in adults 18-49 for the premiere, 0.6 for the second episode last week), NBC is cutting the sitcom’s order by three episodes, to 10. The Universal TV-produced show already is in production on Episode 10, so production will stop after filming the episode wraps.

The multi-camera comedy, which garnered mostly negative reviews, launched behind Undateable on the lower-trafficked Friday night to the worst premiere 18-49 rating for a new show so far this fall and NBC’s worst in-season debut rating ever.

Truth Be Told joins three other underperforming freshmen whose orders were cut: Fox’s Minority Report and ABC’s Blood & Oil (to 10 episodes) and NBC’s The Player (to nine).

Happy to hear about the Grinder.

Fred Savage is following in Jason Bateman's footsteps on the path of transitioning from child star to great comedic straight man. Savage's years behind the camera have served him well and his timing is near perfect, especially when showing exasperation at "the Grinder" and his antics.

The Grinder is terrible because it relies on the presence of a hopelessly unreal person making decisions. Is he stupid or crazy, because it's unsettling how selfish Dean's decision making process is in an otherwise "realistic" version of reality?

Hmmm.

Remember Hope & Faith? Same dealio, but the universe that that sitcom resided in was way less realistic than the Grinder, so Kelly Ripper's loony character was humourlessly permissible.

Hope & Faith was a remake of A Streetcar Named Desire.

Um?

Is The Grinder a also a twisted remake of a Streetcar named Desire?

Well, good for them. I gave up on both The Grinder and Grandfathered after the third episodes. I like a good story, and well, these weren't that for me.

I like The Grinder. Rob Lowe is so funny.

Truth Be Told was cute, that's too bad. So strange that the first two episodes revolved around porn. Will the trend continue with episode 3???
