they're probably also pretty cheap to produce, provide an additional revenue stream (the extra money for it costs to the viewers to vote) and if the first album is a big success the record label (I think it's sony behind a lot of them) can make a killing (and on the first album, the winner is pretty much screwed over).

Great news! I really love this show, I think it's one of the best new shows in a long time. The season finale was really good and definitely left me wanting more, so I'm glad to hear that it will be back.

Very odd that NBC wants it, but there is a rumour the show might just be called Chicago Idol. I'm sure Fox would love several million viewers to watch their network in one week... I mean one night.

CBS is reportedly close to a deal with The Big Bang cast to bring the show back for two more seasons. The main 5 cast would reach pay parity at about $1 million per episode each (plus a big bump up for Rauch and Bialik). That would put the per episode cost at about $10 million per episode, but this is a show that has already made $1 billion in syndication revenues.

There is also talk of a prequel called Sheldon, which sounds like a mistake to me.

Yeah I remember hearing about that "Sheldon" thing a couple months ago. I agree it sounds like a waste. Without the ensemble cast from the main show to basically bounce off Sheldon as a foil, I think it would just be nothing more than "This week on 'Sheldon', the wunderkind once again reminds everyone how much smarter he is than everyone else".

Might as well call it the "Wesley Crusher" show, bring Wil Wheaton in for a cameo wearing his TNG season-1 jumpsuit (after he shaves, of course) and give young Sheldon pointers on how to be an insufferably condescending shit-stick to everyone. Un-fun.
