And the Next Cancelled Show is...

I hear what you're saying now. But I seriously doubt they're going to go off into fanfiction territory - it's HBO pushing for more seasons, not the showrunners. And GRRM probably has enough control to kill any spin-off or sequel ideas he doesn't like.
They could always do a "Dunk and Egg" spinoff, based directly on his work. Same universe, but set many years before the death of Jon Arryn kicked everything off in GoT. Not fanfic, yet quiet different.

Not to mention that last season was a shortened season and was fairly thin as compared to previous seasons. I have trouble seeing how they could go very much beyond after the books end, without it feeling like it overstayed its welcome. Depending on who you talk to, it already started feeling that way last season.

Wait, what? Last season was 10 episodes, just like all the rest.
I could be wrong, but I get the impression that Owain Taggart may be more referring to the content being rather thin because it was based largely on Feast of Crows and parts of Dance of Dragons, both of which were more bland travelogues and seemingly random meanderings of the characters than actual plot-driven story arcs. Aside from a small handful of notable differences, last season, IMO, was pretty bland.

Yeah, that makes much more sense. They cut it to the bare minimum they could get away with without seriously screwing up the timeline to bring action forward, and it was indeed still somewhat bland. This season should be better.

Yeah, that's it. I was referring to the content itself. It just didn't feel as well thought out as previous seasons, which I think had a lot to do with the producers waiting for new content, which IMHO hurt it in the end and felt less satisfying. The end result was something that felt thin on story, making it feel much shorter than it was. So, it just worries me if it were to go on longer than the books. Better to end it on a good note rather than going on and running out of steam.

The irony there is that the scene at Hard Home, which was only minimally touched upon in the books, was super-heavily fleshed out (and fundamentally changed) in the show and, IMO, positively rocked!

Yeah, that was probably one of my favourites as well. Overall though, I remember my frustration as I was feeling like the season was dragging on too much, as if it was waiting for something to happen. There was a lot of scheming, just no action towards anything, as the season felt stretched out. Thankfully the finale made up for it.

NOOO!

Best show ever!

But how do you explain to anyone that "Joey" from Friends is a comic genius?

It's a really hard sell.

Well the show was cut from 22 episodes to 13 and won't start until May at least, so bad. Even the creators know it's over, CBS won't say it is just to try to save face.
May?!? *sigh* Yeah, I know it's over, figured that would be the case about half way through last season, but I'd like to see it end well. Hopefully they will use the 13 episodes they have to tell a satisfying story that does justice to the characters.

CBS has it's schedule full through April and CBS president says it will come out in the Spring. So March 20 - June 20 is when it will come out. JJ Abrams said that the show writers know it's most likely over so they have a season finale that acts like a finale.
