And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Netflix is starting to look like network tv. Endless amount of tv shows I never even knew existed!

It's even worse when you consider that their discoverability via the UI is bad, and it feels even worse through their new UI they recently pushed out that makes you see less overall; less titles per line and less at a glance, making everything feel too crowded.

To find out about new shows and movies coming to Netflix, you need to follow Netflix's social media accounts and sites like What's on Netflix.

Yeah, it's akin to going to a restauraunt, looking at the menu and the waiter telling you to visit a 3rd party website to find an expanded menu to get a better experience.

And I recently read a Forbes article that was hilariously gaslighting dissenters of the new UI claiming that people actually like the new one better.

And to anyone who doesn't have the new UI yet, here's what it looks like: https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/netflix-new-tv-layout

Hell, I've been to restaurants where their menu is only accessible by your phone via a QR code. That blows my mind.

Yeah, it's pretty bad. A shame since I use to argue Netflix had by far the best UI, especially their playback menu.

Yeah, I'd been to one, a sushi place we ended up not staying at, where ordering was done via tablets at the table. It was not a great experience, not so much because of the tablets, but because of the many rules that made ordering vastly overly complicated. There were so many rules about what you could and couldn't do via ordering due to their of Point of Sale system that we decided we didn't want to deal with it, got up and left. Being in a restauraunt is about being in the moment. Being forced to look at a screen takes you out of that moment, and it's very distracting.

How about a pub (bar) - no food service and you had to scan the qr code to get to their website, set up an account, order and pay on line.

Haven't been there since which is a pity as it was a nice pub, especially in the summer.

The new UI is godawful, luckily the app on my Kindle is still on the old UI so use that to browse

We saw some of that stuff here right after things opened back up during the pandemic. Reduced wait staff was part of it, as well as some continued social distancing and wanting to keep physical menus out of dirty hands. LOL

Yeah, in that context it makes sense, and perhaps restaurants have continued using those methods. It's when a restaurant is buzzing with activity with a regular staff that it doesn't make sense.

though it would be a put off for people who are more tech savvy/security minded who won't be keen on the idea of scanning some qr code on eatery table because you never know if it's been tampered with.

I'm not a fan of the codes on tables at all. When those do appear (and a number of places in Miami do, and they aren't high end, either), I don't scan the table... I just go to their website and look at the menu that way. It does the same job, and I'm not risking weird codes being scanned into my phone.

The first time I encountered it was post-lock down at a brewery in Durango. My wife and I were shown to a table and sat there for who knows how long. No menus and we didn't realize what the QR code taped to the table were for. A server finally happened along and asked if things were ok. I mentioned the lack of menus and she pointed to the code and explained that we had to order everything that way. Would have been nice for the server who showed us to the table to explain that up front.

... and that is when I would have got up and left the establishment.
