And the Next Cancelled Show is...

Resurrection pretty much wrapped itself up in it's last episode. They would have to basically come up with a brand new storyline to keep it going.

Forever has a good premise, but it is squandered with the "mystery of the week." It's what happened to Intelligence last year that eventually got it cancelled. It created a mythos and then didn't build on it.

The Simpsons, Family Guy and Bob's Burgers are already renewed, and Sleepy Hollow, Person of Interest and New Girl are in no way "likely to be canceled."

Actually they are toss ups, besides New Girl. Sleepy Hollow and Bones are the only current Fox shows not renewed for next year, or canceled officially. Plus they are "fixing" Sleepy Hollow which is scary.

Yeah, New Girl is pretty safe but I'm really worried about Sleepy Hollow and Constantine. I'm glad Agent Carter has a one season arc, so whatever happens...

Survivor and Amazing Race are already renewed through like season 50, I assume. :)

CSI likely ending? I remember for years it was like the highest ratings on television, is it no longer profitable or have they just decided to put it down?

I don't think Person of Interest is likely to be cancelled. There were some suggestions by the studio that the show should focus more on storylines that casual viewers could follow without having to binge watch all episodes so far.

Sleepy is an odd show, I have a bit of love/hate affair with it. I agree with the sentiment of viewers that they should move away from the 'continuous threat of apocalypse' stories. So far they have been making some changes, but will it be enough? Ratings seem to dwindle down to the same number as Covert Affairs.

It's too late to change the format.

Casual viewers have already made up their mind that it's too complicated and not worth their time. You're only going to alienate the existing fanbase by lowering the bar.

Honest advertising.

"We are making this show more idiot friendly because idiots like you have money that should be spent on our sponsors."

I'm not even sure how casual viewers exist any more now that every one in America that matters to the advert sponsors has a DVR or on demand and will never miss anything, or can time travel to watch the last 17 weeks of some programming they only just now discovered was worthwhile.

If you can't afford a dvr, you can't afford to give in completely to advertising.

I suppose you can change your long distance carrier like they tell you to, but you sure as fuck can't buy a new Ford or afford insurance for the house you don't own, the family you don't have, or the bus you take to work, so what good are you?

Jax, I just happened to notice that you keep leaving Elementary off your list of CBS shows. Where does it stand?

I knew I was missing something

It will get a 4th season because CBS owns it and one more season = Good sydnication package though I expect a move to friday nights possibly.

With regards to Agent Carter, are you saying likely to be cancelled because of ratings, or because it's an 8-episode limited series?

Both...Ratings are awful and despite the fact Disney own Marvel/ABC, I doubt they will save it. Agents of Shield will however get a 3rd and thus a 4th no matter what. I would love to see Netflix co produce & air future seasons of Agent Carter though ;)

As for POI it is not owned by CBS so unless WB basically bribes them I don't see a 5th season but WB could well do that and I remember someone mentioned Netflix pays much better for complete shows so a 13 episode 5th season could be on the cards...However no rumors of that yet and no news is bad news IMO.

I will admit I could be wrong about New Girl but it passes 90 episodes this year and I wonder with the dreadful ratings + Zoey's pregnancy could affect FOX exec's say on the show's future. If the FOX exec's aren't complete assholes then it could get one more year.

POI isn't going to be a monster of the week show. The whole point of the show is this storyline. What I have seen I have liked but I would need to binge watch it. And binge watching saves shows. Studios now want a complete story so they can sell the episodes to Amazon or Netflix.

This is pretty much happened with Angel Season 5. WB forced them to make the show more episodic since Season 4 was super serialized. It didn't work and the ratings stayed pretty much the same and the show got cancelled after Season 5 wrapped up.

Renewed today: Law & Order: SVU, The Blacklist, Chicago Fire and PD and Grimm.

No surprises there but every other NBC show missing from that list should be very worried. Infact along with The Voice it wouldn't surprise me if everything else was new shows next season bar anything new still to air come Spring time.

My guess is that these will be the next canceled shows looking purely at the ratings. They are constantly getting 1.1 demo ratings or lower, and they AREN'T on Friday nights where lower ratings are tolerated.

NBC:
Constantine
State of Affairs
The Mysteries of Laura
About a Boy

ABC:
Forever

Poor NBC!

Except, of course, Saturday Night Live. The uncancelable. I predict, this show will last exactly thirteen years later than Lorne Michaels' death.

Don't forget, Community season 4, Mr 'How long does peyote last'. :) Only in that case the show was miraculously restored.

Not according to head writer David Fury - he attributes it to a power play between Joss Whedon and the WB.

I doubt any of these will be cancelled before upfronts. Constantine and State of Affairs will be over in a couple of weeks anyways, and About a Boy will be replaced on the schedule in March. As for The Mysteries of Laura and Forever, NBC and ABC don't really have anything to replace them with.
