And McCoy will be played by...

Admiral Buzzkill

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Karl Urban, according to Merrick at AICN . He's been told by a contact that it's "a done deal."

(cue chorus decrying the "notorious unreliability of AICN.")

We'll see, real soon.

I don't think I've seen this guy in anything other than Doom and I can't remember what his performance was like because the film was so shite.

Unlike everyone else apparently, I don't have a problem with this choice. Urban has the same kind of wide face Kelley had, and I think he'll be able to slide into the role pretty well.

Frankly I'm surprised at the calibre of cast Abrams has put together. Regardless of whether you think they're the right choices, at least he found some quality actors and not a bunch of generic lookalikes.

He was a good Julius Caesar on Xena, if you ask me. And I didn't realize he was the same guy who played Cupid on there until I looked him up.

Sure, why not?

:rommie:

Yay! I thought he was cool in the Bourne Supremacy!

Im very, very impressed with the cast so far.

Interesting. I enjoyed him in Xena, Hercules, The Bourne Supremacy, and, of course, The Lord of the Rings (which I wouldn't call a small role). However, he isn't my first choice for the role, but then my first choice is 17 years older (Gary Sinise). :(

Sinise would have been fine if they were remaking, say, TMP. But this is pre-TOS, and he would look way too old for that time period, let alone standing next to the rest of this young cast.

I originally thought Sinise as well, but on reflection people are right, he's too old for the McCoy of this pre-TOS movie.

Karl Urban played Eomer in the Two Towers and Return of the King editions of Lord of the Rings. Thought he was pretty good in that.

I thought Urban was great in The Bourne Supremacy and LOTR. I'm very interested to see how he plays McCoy (I don't expect a DeForest impression).

Maybe it's because he happens to be in the kind of films I watch, but I would've thought he's too big to play him. I thought the idea was to cast virtual unknowns as the main crew, so they could be used in sequels. I just don't want Trek XII to have to recast some parts.

Anyway, for now, this is an interesting crew. Now, let's get the promo photoshoots done! Let's see them in uniform! :D

Yes, very true. Stupid age thing. Sinise would have been perfect.

Plus, I want him to quit crappy CSI: NY and get back to doing movies.

On the main page, this thread reads as:

And McCoy will be played by... Starship Polaris

Congratulations, Dennis! You were right here under our noses the whole time. :guffaw:

So we've got a dark, handsome, sinewy, glowering Bones. This is possibly the most interesting casting choice yet. I look forward to seeing what Urban does with it.
