Erm... *searches around* I can't cite itTrekmovie.com says Peter Weller is playing Admiral Marcus, Carol's father.
Where is that exactly? I must have missed that.

I remember some of the Lost casting sheets had character descriptions, something like "character who leads a hostile takeover of a corporation" which was obviously not entirely accurate, so being called a 'CEO' probably doesn't literally mean a CEO.
It's very easy to do, in a way that makes the film self-contained for people watching it as a one-off.What I'm having a hard time figuring out is why they would bother with the whole "I have returned to have my vengeance" angle with a character we've never seen or heard of before. Not to say it isn't possible to introduce a brand new character, fill in his back story with a plausible motive for vengeance and make the whole thing work, it just seems... odd.![]()

The pre-credits sequence is a spectacular mini-episode in which Cumberbatch's character apparently gets killed. The main movie is set a few years later, when he returns to take his revenge.
Not saying that's what they're going to do, but it's almost as basic an approach to plotting as Act1/2/3/4.
…It's obvious that Roberto Orci, way back when he gave the interview in which he said/hinted that Cumberbatch's character was from established TOS lore, did a classic switcheroo by telling us that Alice Eve's character was new to canon and Cumberbatch's character was taken from TOS lore when the opposite is actually true.
…If my other theory is correct, that Cumbebatch is not playing the ultimate villain in this movie, then all bets are off.
The “ultimate villain?”

Now that’s a stretch. Remember that Orci later commented that he misspoke with regards to one of those characters. Clearly Cumberbatch is Harrison the extra from TOS; Orci misspoke about Alice Eve cum Carol Marcus being a new character.
I thought of that too initially, but J.J. specifically said that the villain would be from TOS. Johnny is not from TOS.
…As for Orci’s admitted having lied about one of the characters in the TrekMovie.com interview, I can easily imagine myself having been asked that question, focusing in the moment on the word “canon” and completely missing the “original Star Trek” [sic] part. In that case, I would have answered, “canon,” for Harrison, thinking of Johnny having been added to the canon in Star Trek (2009), and I think that’s what Bob Orci did, then after re-reading the question in the article and realizing his error he commented on it.
In fact, that sounds exactly like something I would do, especially in his shoes.

Trek Movie guess: Khan.
My God. Is that true? Harrison Khan?![]()
