Great interview @1001001 . It was so sad when Waymire passed away, and I thought it poked a hole in the show.

I wonder if you asked him anything from his appearance in The Orville. I'm so used to seeing Billingsley as this happy go lucky figure (I admit I haven't seen many of his roles) so his turn in Orville kind of freaked me out.

Yes part two has a couple of questions about The Orville.

For the record, these questions came from posters here, not me.

@1001001 Thank you very much! Interviewing him was great idea. You cared your posters and you proceed the interview very well!

And it is amazing to read his sophisticated, very direct and smart answer in his usual attitude to my question. :adore:

Some thoughts about the interview..

JB: “At other times, I thought they kinda were off on Phlox (most notably, for me, the episode in which his racial animus is revealed, or the episode in which T’Pol goes through Pon Farr. Now come on guys, I would have said, Phlox would surely have just done the nasty with her, wouldn’t he?”

Maybe he is joking, but I am not sure if Phlox would do it with T'Pol..
PROs: He has a heart for alternative cures, why not? Denobulans have another perception for sex than us.
CONTRAs: Nevertheless, he knows Vulcans have another perception for sex than Denobulans and reaction of T'Pol is unforeseeable. As we know he respects right of patience and the doing nasty things with her is not the last solution to save her live.

JB:" I would have liked, on a personal level, to have seen them back away from the whole Trip/T’Pol romance, which I don’t think either one of the actors were too keen on, either."

Huh, I thought "show must go on" is an indefinitely motto of show business. I am not sure what he means with "being keen"
-We know actors who played best buddies, were hated each other in real life. You should not have sympathy for someone to play lovers with him/her. JB & CT has a great chemistry and sexual tension was always present at their scenes, if they like each other or not as private person.
-TnT romance was "the" only relationship ENT, which we used to have from another ST crews. And it was a fan favorite romance. (Honestly, as someone who became familiar with ENT later, I was shocked from huge numbers of TnT fanfics) So this romance had not negatively impact of careers of JB or CT. At least JB has no problem with nudity, I do not know about CT.
-Jolene Blalock said at the Bluray release interview that, she wished TPTB has a clear meaning about TnT: go through or let it go. I am totally agree with her. IIRC, there is no other ST-couple which has to fight against too much cruelties. I did not get the point why they should suffer and suffer and suffer. :angryrazz:

JB: “I never really pitched ideas, but one of the ones I kinda wanted to pitch was this: we pick up a Denobulan ship in distress and take in the crew; hundreds of ’em, like Tribbles. They eat all the food. They’re messy as shit. They sing and skip and dance. They’re fucking merry and just generally exuberant. They’re hyper-curious and ask tons of questions and they’re pleasure-seeking (i.e. you can hear them having sex all over the ship, at all hours, sometimes in public locations). They are inadvertently insulting in their hyper-amused contempt for human modesty and human dopiness, and they basically make the entire crew so incredibly embarrassed, and irritated, that Archer can’t wait to shift ’em off onto the nearest inhabitable planet (only there ain’t one nearby). [It’s] like The Man Who Came To Dinner, for those of you who know that old chestnut of a play, only Monty Woolley‘s character is every single Denobulan that comes aboard.”

Hihi, that would be amazing, I would gladly offer "Precious Cargo" for the episode . :D

Very nice interview! Thanks for doing this, @1001001! I love John Billingsley and actually thought about submitting a question myself, but then I took too long before the thread was gone. Will there be a question about Jerome Bixby's “Man From Earth” in part two? It's one of my absolute favorite movies ever and I always wondered if Billingsley had any stories to tell about shooting the movie. :)

Yes there is a question about that film. Check it out, it's posted.
