An interesting thread about TMP - DC

TMP came out on in 1979, so what cut is Fein referring to at 110 minutes? For video?

Technically it's the DE (Director's Edition) not DC.

It was not output at 720p. It was rendered at SD resolution. 720 is the width of an SD pic (anamorphic or not) not the height, which is closer to 480.

To this day I see the DE as a missed opportunity—a fanboy edit of the film without due diligence done about what the original intent was... and Robert Wise 20 years later didn't seem to remember what he wanted in 1980 (as in obvious from interviews immediately post-TMP when he flat out said some of the changes he wanted to make). Good riddance to it.

It wasn't perfect but I found Enterprise a substantial quality improvement on Blu ray. It was sharper and the colours warmer than DVD. I would basically welcome a similar mix of upscale and true HD Motion Picture scenes. That's if there was absolutely no other way to get the Director's Edition at 1080p. I prefer that version, aside from a few missing sound effects the producers couldn't find back in 2001 and had no alternative but to change.
