An AU Romulan Question (spoilers)

In the new Star Trek, the Romulan Nero wreaks havoc across the galaxy, first visiting a Wolf 359 on the Klingons with his destruction of 47 warbirds (!), then using a planetkiller weapon on Vulcan before being stopped, barely, before he could destroy Earth.

What effect will Nero's rampage have on the Romulan Star Empire's relationship with the rest of the galaxy? Will the Praetor be believed when he claims that the Empire had nothing to do with this? Could the Empire be plunged into war?

I'm still trying to get over Vulcan getting destroyed. I can't even think that far ahead yet.

The effect will be that the Klingon Empire has less than 50 years of life left it and Kirk will have to negotiate peace in the next movie.

Also, a younger Sybock will try to sway the remaining Vulcans to his way of thinking.
