Amusing IMDB rumor for the Christmas special

Sadly, this is the kind of casting I was hoping Doctor Who had stopped wasting time with.

At least Gambon is an actual actor, I suppose, even if he is an arrogant jerk, but Jenkins is just an annoying singer. I wish we could go back to the days when actors auditioned for parts.

Who is to say she didn't? And I don't find her annoying at all.

Also, do the math - they brought in Kylie and got one of the highest ratings in the show's 47-year history. Jenkins has recently launched the American phase of her career and only a few days ago had a huge profile done on her on CNN. Which means as more major media pick up on her, there's more chance the profiles will now included "soon to appear on BBC America's Doctor Who."

Don't be elitist. As far as I'm concerned they can bring in Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Kate Gosselin AND Graham Norton for all I care. If the story is good and they do a good job, why should any of us give a s*it? I'm not a huge Kylie fan but I loved her Astrid Peth and I'd cheer for her return in a heartbeat.

Just remember that every time time this sort of "annoying" casting happens it's simply more proof that Doctor Who is continued to be held in high regard. Hell, if they want to pull the Batman thing and have a celebrity cameo in every episode I'm fine with that if Moffat can find a way for it to work.

^For every Kylie (who has an established history as an actress prior to and during her music career), there's a Peter Kay or an Anne-Droid.

To be honest it strikes me that Jenkins has been hired for ability to play the part rather than her celebrity. In fairness she's not exactly Cheryl Cole. Famous yes, but probably not that famous or widely popular. If it's a ratings grabber there are a whole heap of more famous pretty faces they could have nabbed (Kelly Brook has a whole heap of prior acting jobs but that doesn't neccesarily mean anything)

And so far Who's record when it comes to (supposed)stunt casting isn't that bad.

Peter Kay- Bloody awful
Catherine Tate- Bloody brilliant
Kylie- Good
James Cordon- good

And let's not forget that (though she'd had some acting gigs before Who) that Billie was still best known as a pop star.

^Well, for one thing, I'm not a member of the Billie Piper Admiration Society you all seem to be members of.

I must have lost my membership card.

Liked Billie in season 1, hated her in season 2 and thought she was essentially pointless at the end of season 4, with only her cameo in The End of Time having some merit.

In terms of new series companions she's below Donna and Amy in my affections, and if we were to go with classic and new companions she wouldn't get anywhere near my top 10, but she clearly can act well enough to television, and wasn't just picked for Who, she auditioned, and frankly I think she was a good pick for Rose, just a shame it all went south once Tennant showed up.

I'm of the opinion that any film or tv show can be improved simply by the addition of Brian Blessed to the cast. So if he turns up in the christmas special, then i can't wait.

The only mistake Peter Jackson made when he filmed The Lord of the Rings was not casting Brian as Tom Bombadil.

Anyone remember the days when people thought Moffat wouldn't engage in Stunt Casting?

What stunt casting did he do for series 5?

I also don't remember anyone saying he wouldn't, either. I've always assumed that is inevitable because Moffat isn't completely in control of the show. The BBC is a corporation, and they have their fingers deep into their top franchise. How Moff DIDN'T have to stunt-cast for Season Five, I have no idea...

Bear in mind as well that Moffat had Alistair McGowen and Mariella Frostrup cameo in only the second episode of Coupling in order to provide a punchline to a gag...

Angus Deayton.

Angus Deayton doing an impersonation of alistair McGowen?

Worth a try. I knew I'd got that wrong, lord knows how many times I've watched that bloody episode as well! :brickwall:
Well the both begin with A, and they were both on BBC Two together last night... you can use that as an excuse.

The Time Lords are as permanently out of commission as the Doctor will be after his thirteenth incarnation, which is to say not at all.

Another Omega rumour? I swear, an outsider must think him and the Valeyard are prominent staples of Doctor Who, considering how many rumours have been going on about them this year.
