AMT Leif Ericson

I don't know, but I didn't see anything on the site that recommends buying the resin kit over the reissue.

A lot of that information was posted years before the kit was reissued. At that time, trying to buy an unassembled kit from eBay usually meant paying 300 bucks or higher. Nyrath has opted not to delete anything, rather, just add to the page.

As you may have guessed, yes, I've followed that site for a number of years.

Sincerely,

Bill

Anyone ever notice if you remove the wings and the neck, that it is essentially the same profile as the Defiant from DS9? Perhaps they are related?

I had similar suspicions years ago but brushed it off as coincidence and my tendency to see such inspirations in things other people ignore. Be interesting to see a build-up with that concept in mind and see how it looks. Take off the wings, chop short the neck and throw a deflector on the front. Maybe even transplant the tower back a bit. . . wouldn't be very flashy, but would make for an interesting TOS-era experimental craft.

Yeah, I noticed that the sheaths looked oddly alike too. Every time I look at the Leif Ericson's engine covers, I cannot help but think that the Defiant's nacelle sheaths look similar.

Not strictly a Trek ship model, but it WAS designed by Matt Jefferies.

(I was going to surround the shield with "Welcome Skraelings," but I didn't want to piss off the alien visitors)

The hinges are greeblies stolen from Dragon's SA-6 AA tank:

Lights! Apparently the LEDs have a blue cast, because they make purple light inside the red plastic. They also seem to be directional, because most of their light comes out the front (and rear) without casting much of a glow inside the engine shrouds.

SO happy to have built this great old kit again!

Looks great! I have both the reissue of the Leif and of the glow-in-the-dark UFO Mystery Ship on my shelf, waiting for me to get around to building them. Polar Lights have really outdone themselves, and you did them one better (at least ;) ).

I'm going to need another one to build my Bonaventure ... ;)
