I can't even remember the last time I saw money that wasn't plastic here in Australia.
And mildly off-topic, I've never understood America sticking with all their money being the same colour.
We like it green. Over the last few years, though, it's been changing. It's all still green, but there are other colors mixed in with the different denominations.
I've never understood countries that make their bills different sizes. I like my money nice and uniform so it fits in my wallet.
You've got something against helping out blind people?
But seriously, that's why our money is the same height but different lengths. Helps them to differentiate them.

It shows how ignorant you can be and not even realize it. Of course! Brilliant.
When I got back to the US, I ran into a blind couple at a bar, and I told them the story and asked how they differentiated the bills. They said you have to have someone you trust tell you, and then they use different folds along the tops and edges to separate the bills into denominations.
I think the US should definitely help them out and create a better system than that.

I don't even like the new colors and face changes on our American bills. But as to blindness... there was a blind man who owned a store on my campus and worked the cash register. He would change out bills with no problems, it was fascinating really. I'm sure if someone put effort into fooling him they might've been able to do so but who in the hell is going to be so cold as to rip off a blind man?
Instant differentiation has its advantages - in the states I found the opposite, that you couldn't tell at a glance in your wallet whether you had 1s or 100s, very annoying!
Like all things, I guess it just depends on what you're used to. I have no problem telling what I have in my wallet at a glance.
OTOH, we Yanks think lots of other countries' money looks like Monopoly money.
It's not the money that's exciting. It's the neat stuff you can buy when you have a lot of it.
