Season 8 will be set in the future but not in space.

also season 9 will probably be a Murder House/Coven crossover

Maybe they follow Black Mirror type of story telling since it is set in the future.

I loved most of the previous seasons, but I thought Freak Show was rubbish as there was barely anything supernatural about it apart from a minor character in only two episodes.

I didn't get through Roanoke as the "true story re-enactment" format just didn't keep my interest. I gave up after about 4 episodes.

I've not seen Cult yet but I'm going to keep an open mind.

A story set in the future sounds intriguing...

I stopped watching during Season 5 (Hotel), but if this is a Black Mirror type of sci-fi, I might start again.

Well I had a read of the Cult season's storyline over on the American Horror Story wikia, and it looks like another non-supernatural plotline? If that's the case I may skip it and go directly to season 8.

I really enjoyed Hotel.. Freak Show put me off, and I almost didn't come back... Roanoke was an interesting concept, but didn't really hold my interest... Cult, I thought was fantastic... The twists and turn and the character development made up for the lack of supernatural elements for me... Will be interesting to see what they do with "the future"....

I still didn't make it through all of a Cult, I did enjoy it, but I like the other seasons I just fell behind and couldn't get caught up before they pulled.
The idea of them doing a season set in the future is definitely interesting.

Cody Fern cast

Cody Fern (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story) has joined the cast of the upcoming Season 8 of FX’s horror anthology, subtitled Apocalypse, which will combine characters from Season 1’s Murder House and Season 3’s Coven. Fern will play a grown-up version of Michael Langdon, the murderous baby we met during AHS‘ inaugural season.

Jessica Lange Returning for Apocalypse

Jessica Lange is headed back to the American Horror Story universe. Franchise vet Sarah Paulson broke the news Friday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour, announcing that the multiple-Emmy winner will guest star in the upcoming Apocalypse-themed Season 8.
