AMC's The Walking Dead and all things zombie's

I thought they were vampires?^ and I loved that book as well as his what dreams may come?

Matheson used the word "vampire" back in 1954, but the mindless, voracious revenants in the book would be probably be described as "zombies" today.

A great book, though.

They could talk, so not really that mindless. Though to be fair, they didn't drink blood either, so generic undead.

It's funny. Matheson's book has had way more impact on the zombie genre than on vampire movies even though it's technically about vamps . . . .

I call them Vombies... I Am Legend, 30 Days of Night and I'm sure I've seen a couple others

Was Romero the guy responsible for the "cannibal" aspect of zombies? As well as the raised-from-the-dead (Matheson's vampires weren't even dead like "real" vampires, right?)

Matheson's were the result of a flue - like plague. The final stages being death and re-animation.

For a faithful adaptation try and find the Vincent Price version of I am Legend in black and white.

I've lived my entire life in California and I know the CDC is in Atlanta. I thought it was just one of those things everyone knows, like the Space Needle is in Seattle and Miracle Mile is in LA (and Chicago, though I've heard Chicagoans don't like that term).

Actually, Chicagoans call it the Magnificent Mile.

Actually, that's what the tourists call it.

Residents in the neighborhoods call it "the-area-to-absolutely-avoid-while-driving-because-it's-impoosible-to-move-and-too-expensive to-buy-anything." It's the epitome of the 4th side of Chicago.

Which is titled The Last Man on Earth, fyi.

That's what the news stations call it when referring to that area. I never go there myself for the very reasons you sight.

Oops, my bad.

It was actually a pretty good movie. Saw it this past Halloween on AMC on demand.
Does it end rather abruptly? I picked up a copy from a Dollar Store a couple years back, and the ending made it appear that part of the movie was missing. Haven't been able to rewatch it, to see if I missed something, because I loaned out to someone, and it subsequently disappeared

No problem! It gets confusing sometimes. I actually have an old movie tie-in of the novel that's labeled "THE OMEGA MAN" on the cover . . . .

Trying to remember exactly how it ended. How did the copy you saw end?

Not sure, it seemed rather abrupt. I think Vincent Price was walking around inside sipping a cup of tea or something, and it just ended.

Okay, that's not how the movie ends. QUASI-SPOILER ALERT.

There's a big finale where a new society of infected humans, who aren't as mindless as the other vampires, come after him. It doesn't end well.

Sounds like your tv station clipped off the ending for some reason.

That happened to me with SPIDER BABY once. I was watching it in the wee hours of the night, when suddenly the channel cut to another program. Guess they got the timing wrong--and figured nobody was watching at 3 am anyway!

I've also occasionally seen late, late movies shown with the acts in the wrong order, like somebody got the reels mixed up or something. (This was back in the pre-digital era, of course.)

^Sindatur was watching a video tape. Though how some movies are treated, I could still see mixed/missing reels being the issue.

now has anyone here seen the animated series High School of the Dead?

it's on Hulu and the anime network frakin awesome series.
