AMC's Rubicon

Anybody watching it? It just premiered on Sunday. It supposedly scored pretty high in the ratings making it 3 for 3 in strong AMC original programming. So far I am intrigued with this show though.

A dark conspiracy thriller. It's about a group of code crackers that work for a covert government agency. Plenty of mystery unraveling it appears. What the main plot is, remains to be seen. Only 2 episodes in.

You know, I wanted to be intrigued by this show, but the previews did absolutely nothing for me. That, and for some reason the name "Rubicon" really turns me off.

The show is pretty much all atmosphere and set-up right now, two episodes in. I don't particularly like it yet, but it has potential to be good and I'll give it at least a few more episodes to grab me.

I saw the premiere after the season finale of Breaking Bad, but I didn't know that they were going to show the second episode when the show officially premiered, so I have to catch up.

I watched half of the premiere, which is all I could stand. I didn't see a single thing that grabbed me. I'll stick with a show and let the story unfold, but there has to be something worth my while during the process.

It is slow, but I like conspiracy theories and I think the main guy looks a lot like the guy from Glee. Coincidence?

I watched the two hour premiere and was all ready for the next episode. Alas, I must wait until Sunday. It was slow, yes, but interesting and if I had to guess it's going to be like The Wire in terms of pacing. A slow build to an explosion.

Maybe on this show James Badge Dale can solve what happened to his character on Rescue Me after he ceased to exist. :p

So I just watched all 3 eps so far, and it is definetly paced slowly, a slow burn build. But I'm liking it enough to stick with it for a bit more. I'm liking the style, acting is solid, and it has a realistic air about it that I find very smart.

And I love the theme, can't quite put my finger on what it reminds me of?

In one respect, the notion that nothing happens is wrong. There's been a suicide, a murder, a possible murder attempt, a code break, reveals of a secret life, surveillance, secret mesages left by a dead man.

In the usual sense, big chase scenes, big sex scenes, big screaming histrionic fights, nothing at all has happened. The closest we've come is one guy saying, with an edge in his voice, that he wanted his Dad's motorcycle. The thing about that scene, is that the lack of histrionics made it feel more real to me. These are already starting to seem like real people with real jobs. Even the spy people seem to be working a real job, not a Bond fantasy. Of the other characters, Miles in particular seems to have an internal life.

But the series is definitely rationing the reveals and action, such as it it. Miranda Richardson plays a widow whose entire storyline is nowhere near connected to James Badge Dale's spy. I'm pretty sure that she is the female lead!

I'm hanging in.

It's been slow to reveal anything which given the plot is fine, otherwise I'd have quit watching it by now. Only three episodes into this is not enough to say either way whether it's worth the time to watch though.

I'm enjoying it so far. It is slow paced but that I don't mind so much as it does have a sense of realism to it that has been lacking from shows of late.

Wow, I think if ratings are like that I'll just save myself the time and stop watching now. There's no way this series is going to continue airing.

I finally got around to watching the first 3 episodes of the series last night that were saved up on my DVR. My initial reaction--ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Boring.

I don't mind slow pacing but this was glacial, all the characters besides Will are boring. For a supposed conspiracy thriller it is dull and lacks any excitement. We are treated most of each episode to slow "character" scenes that just highlight how bland this batch of characters are then we get maybe 5 minutes of stuff tied to the actual conspiracy thread which is definitely more interesting but only slightly.

I might give it an episode or two more to see if things pick up but I just don't think I'll be sticking with it and I had high hopes since most conspiracy thrillers usually are pretty good.

This is just too boring. I'm done. I just watched the last two episodes and was bored out of my mind. There is a difference between a slow burn and glacial pacing.:cardie:

Just had a look, very slow, very boring - I'm not surprised that people are tuning out in their droves...
