AMC's Hell on Wheels, Season 4

Did they ever explain what happened to the Converted Indian guy, Joseph? He just disappeared towards the end of Season 2 with little explanation.

There was a lot of explanation, actually. After he killed his adopted father, the preacher, he left the town to go "back into the wild" --meaning, presumably, to go back to the Indian people, or at least, their way of life. Since Ruth was fairly horrified over his killing father---even though it was to save the people on the train he hijacked--so she couldn't really forgive him. I would like to see him come back, but there's no telling if he will.

Don't count the Swede out until after they've put a stake through his heart, decapitated him, and burned and buried the two halves of his body separately...and maybe not even then....

When Mormon Wife asked Bohannon who Elam was, what did he say?

Damn, that was a good episode.

The scene with the horses was heartbreaking; I can't stand to see animals hurt. Oddly enough, the people getting killed left and right on this show doesn't seem to affect me much.

Best line: "You about to get yo' job back."

Took me a minute to recognize Colin Cunningham ("Falling Skies) as the card shark.

Yep, I did a double take at first. It's almost strange seeing him all cleaned up now.

Damn good episode.

And look who's in the trailer for next week....

Anybody think the carpetbaggers are going to cause Bohannon and Durant to work together against their common enemy?

Yeah, but Durant would be faking it.

BTW, I get a chuckle everytime O'Brien (I mean Durant) slips in a word like enterprise or anomaly. :)

I'm almost done watching the first two seasons and I have one question: Why did Eva always call her husband "Mr. Toole"?

I figured it was a sign that she didn't really love him, but it was just so blatant as to be practically comical. Dude, wake up, the love of your life isn't on a first-name basis with you!

I was thinking that there might be an explanation like that, I just wasn't sure. Her calling him "Mr. Toole" didn't seem to raise any eyebrows, even his.

Tonight's episode was very good---lots of set-up for what's to come: a possible conclusion to the "Swede" saga (or maybe not; he's a slippery devil), trouble for the new wife, trying to take the train over the hill, conflict with the Indians, and the re-structuring of the town. Lots going on--can't wait to see what happens!

Oh, the Swede (Tor...Gundersen...was...Norwegian!) already has wheels in motion to escape his current predicament...and I'd be surprised if his plans didn't involve dragging Bohannon and family back into the mess.

Interesting relationship they're developing between Durant and Eva...he seems almost human....

I'm also interested to see how Mickey's recently-revealed dark side factors into things...he seems like the gun in the room waiting to be fired.

On further thought, though, it wouldn't surprise me if he had long-term ulterior motives...just not of such a common, banal sort. He's currently in a situation where he can use all the friends he can get...it never hurts to establish some leverage over somebody for later. Maybe I'm being way too cynical...but Durant's that kind of character...the kind you love to hate.

OTOH, it's also possible that they're setting up Eva to take advantage of Durant in some fashion (or get in trouble trying). They've made a point of showing her looking for angles to get by since Elam left the picture. Her first resort, given her background, is to offer herself in return for others' generosity (Miss Ellison last season, Durant this episode); but there are also incidents like sneakily pocketing the dead cart-cheater's money when he was shot, and trying to learn tricks of the trade from the next card-cheater who came along (wonder if anything will come of that or if that was supposed to be a dead end...).
