AMC's Hell on Wheels, Season 4

Green Shirt

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Just saw the season 4 opener, and I was underwhelmed by it. Very little action, and way too much talking. Hope the show doesn't further slide into snoozefest like The Walking Dead.

I'm disappointed by how much of the cast has been changed out. Common is gone. The female reporter seems to be gone as does the mormon boy.

No, he is most definitely dead and gone. His name was removed from the main credits. He was only in the end credits because of the "previously on" scene.

I was a bit underwhelmed but there was definitely a good set-up---a great tension building. I'm hoping we will see that all lead to something.

yeah i didn't think this opener was disappointing at all. it had that same "things are a brewing" vibe that the second season opener had :)

I just started this show last season and am planning to catch up on the earlier episodes soonish. I was surprised that they just killed Elam off...I didn't think he was dead in the Season 3 finale, but there he wasn't in the credits....

Seems like they were setting up the Mormon boy as a potential witness against the Swede...hadn't noticed that he'd dropped from the series too....Might he return?

It's not so much that they killed him as the way they did it...death by random creature encounter...he should have brought his lucky die.

[randomgeekreference] He shouldn't have picked a fight. He should have picked a random door card or rolled a 5 or 6 to run away. [/randomgeekreference]

He was the victim of a wandering damage table. It just means the DM didn't have a firm hold on the party.

Considering he was a main character and we never actually saw him die, just left for dead, he's about as dead as... well, just about any comic book superhero you can think of who "died." He may come back missing a limb or two, but he'll be back.

If anything, I'd guess they took his name out of the opening credits to help sell the story all the more. (Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually demanded they do that.)

A main character isn't gonna be taken out by a damn random bear attack with no one around to so much as witness it.

I'd like to think that's what happened. Does anyone know if there's been any press to the effect that Common left the show?

Now Bohannon's wife...did they recast her because the previous actress looked young enough to be his daughter? Because I thought that was kind of the point of the situation...arrangements like that weren't uncommon back in the day.

They recast her because she left to go to the series, "Black Box."

About Elam: I just found this on EW online--
exec producer John Wirth confirms it: “He survives the bear attack, but I think you will be surprised to see the manner in which he survives,” he tells EW. “The circumstances of his survival are unique.”

So excited! :bolian:

In terms of how dismal things were a century or so ago, The Knick seems even more depressing than Hell On Wheels

Yep.

Finally, we're back to Bohannon & the railroad. Can't wait to see him go up against the new "government" men.

I'd better keep up with you all so I don't get spoilers. I usually wait to see it on demand, but I should make it a point to see the initial airing.
