AMC Theatres- Oscar Showcase

Kira's Mom

The day before the Oscars are handed out, AMC Theatres has an all-day Best Picture nominee marathon. I went last year and had a blast. My mom and sister are going with me this year.

Anyone ever done a marathon like this? If you have an AMC near you and they offer it, you should give it a go. (Yes, you get breaks between films and a longer break for dinner- you're even allowed to bring outside food into the theater!)

I haven't seen any of the nominees yet. I'm looking most forward to Slumdog Millionaire and Frost/Nixon.

No AMC in my area, sadly :(

This would be totally cool though. Although this year by some miracle, I've seen them all except Slumdog Millionaire. Hopefully I can knock that one off sometime this week.

Hope you have fun, Kira's Mom! You're in for at least a few really good movies!

^Yeah, I guess it's an American chain. I'm surprised other chains haven't run with this idea.

Until last year, I would have been lucky to see two of the nominees, let alone all five. Only year I managed to see 4 of the 5 was 2003- ROTK, Master and Commander, Seabiscuit (which was a BAD nomination), and Lost in Translation, and I saw Mystic River a couple of weeks after the Oscars were handed out.

There's not an AMC theatre in range of Ithaca, sad to say, as that sounds like a good idea. On the other hand, I've already seen Slumdog Millionaire, Milk, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I have no interest in seeing The Reader, which by all accounts should have never been nominated, so I'll just pretend The Wrestler was nominated, and I've seen that already. That only leaves Frost/Nixon, which I'm hoping to see this weekend.

I've seen The Reader and while it's a good little movie, I'll agree; it never should have been nominated. This spot should have gone to The Dark Knight no question.

I haven't seen The Wrestler though so I'll reserve judgment for now I guess.

I do have an AMC near me, but the only best picture nominee I haven't seen is The Reader. I wish someone did a Best Actress nominee marathon. I haven't seen any of those films and that is rare that come Oscar time, I had not seen at least two best actress nominee films.

Of course there are none anywhere near me. Everyone here would rather go see Paul Blart: Mall Cop and Dumbass Movie III.

We're going on Saturday. :)

Still waiting for my collectible pass. :D

Last year, I got mine at the door when I picked up my ticket. I assume that will be the case this year, too. The pass was on a lanyard, and had to be worn pretty much at all times!

Yay! They make mention of it on the website and no one in my group thought to ask! I've been carrying around this little ticket in my wallet for a month now, terrified I'm going to rip it or lose it!

I would totally do that if I did have to turn in three fellowship applications next Wednesday. That would be really pushing my luck.
