AMC is developing Red Mars!!!

AND...Carter Beats the Devil! Great novel! A fantastic read! My wife will be thrilled to hear the news.

I don't know anything about that one, I just like the idea of a historical show that is pre-1950s (recent-historical time periods are overdone), but are there any sf/fantasy/supernatural elements in it?

Here's a thought... Adrian Pasdar as Frank Chalmers? I think he could pull off the conflicted moral ambiguity needed for that character.

John Boone, though, I think would be the toughest to cast properly. He needs to be able to be both larger-than-life (since his character remains so important and revered well after his death), but we-the-audience need to be able to see that he's quite flawed and human at the same time.

Sounds good.

Maybe that's the role for Clancy Brown, then. Or Henry Ian Cusik.

Wow, I'd better get to reading these books!

I always put them off, but I guess now is as good a time as any to start reading them.

I don't know Clancy Brown very well as an actor, but I can see Henry Ian Cusik doing a good job with the role. Can he pull off a midwestern accent? Not that it's critical, though, it doesn't matter if they retcon him to be Scottish.

I love Mad Men, so I'm excited to see AMC tackle a Sci-Fi series if they bring the level of that level of craft to it. I've never read Red Mars, but I will now be reading it soon.

This is a great book. There are no sf/fantasy elements. Carter is a real magician from the 20's. The book is a fictionalized account of his life. I'd be interesting to see AMC tackle this one too.

i had an idea similar to this ages back (my idea was basically following the first generation & second generation of settlers on Mars, and the friction that develops between the two) however this book / TV series probaly covers the same ground I was thinking of.
