AMC Green Light's Kevin Smith's "Secret Stash"

An hour long show? I can't imagine it holding an audience for an hour at a time.

I think it could. Well, I could watch it for an hour at a time. I love his "An Evening with Kevin Smith" outings, and that's two hours of mostly dead air.

It's only six one hour episodes and yeah I'm a sucker for his An Evening With outings along with his Comic con appearances. I've not listened to SmodCast in a while though.

I predict this will be like The Paul Reiser Show... canceled after two episodes.

Except unlike the example you cited this series is on a cable network that actually promotes their work and has had a string of successful series as of late specifically designed to reach genre or niche audiences. AMC is fully aware most likely that Kevin Smith has a cult following and is hoping to capitalize on that factor. I'm not saying this is gonna win an Emmy or be the new "Mad Men" but I think it's a little harsh to state that it will be cancelled after two episodes.

Can't wait to see what the Chumlee analog is going to be like.

"I bought the first issue of Kool-Aid Man for $5,000, boss, is that okay?"

Dude - Chumlee may play dumb on the show, but he owns an Aston Martin.

I'll willingly be the "Chumlee" character.

Sounds like it's a quasi-reality series set in the NJ comic book store. I suspect Smith and maybe Mewes will make cameos but for the most part it looks to be just centered around the comic book store's day-to-day operations.

Indeed. I believe that the AMC executive talking about it said that they know it won't be for everyone, and it is a niche project, but that the network has become the home of the niche projects you don't find elsewhere and that to a large number of it's audience, the local comic book store is the corner coffee shop. So the program fits in with the overall theme of the network.

It's about Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanigan and others, who run Kevin Smith's Secret Stash comic book shop. Johnson and Flanigan are semi popular in their own right, with Johnson being "Steve-Dave" from Mallrats and various other Askewniverse outings, and Flanigan being the guy who tells Steve-Dave to tell em. Hence, they're fairly successful podcast "Tell 'Em Steve-Dave". It doesn't quite do SModcast numbers, but they've done a few live shows which seem to have gone well, and if you listen to the podcast they're also a funny bunch of guys. If this is essentially Steve-Dave the TV show (which it apparently kinda is) It should be funny as hell. I just hope the TV guys don't censor them to bits.

I'll be watching.

So basically a reality version of The Big Bang Theory?

Could work if it's got the trademark Kevin Smith humor (which i still love) and being a mini-series at first means everyone can test the water before fully committing.

Additionally i'm the target demographic and go to my own store (though it's mainly a tabletop/trading card games store) which has the same vibe they are going for in the store... and i love it there :techman:
