Ambassadors of Death bait and switch

Shatnertage

Rear Admiral
Yesterday morning, BBC America was running a block of Doctor Who. Paging through the episode summaries, I saw that the first one was called "Ambassadors of Death."

Oh, cool, I thought. They started showing Classic Who and I missed it. But clocking in at an hour, this couldn't have been right, unless they were bundling episodes two at a time or something. Since I haven't seen this ep, I set the DVR to record.

When I actually watched the episode, it was just "Rise of the Cybermen."

What gives?

Anyone see the news about Iran's "Ambassador of Death" that they unveiled? I couldn't stop thinking about the Doctor Who serial when I heard about it.

^^^Yes, I had that bit at the bottom of the post, but deleted it because I didn't want to get into a whole geopolitical debate, and I didn't want to make light of it because it's a pretty serious development that doesn't bode well for anyone in the region.

Back to happy fun TBBS mode: Suffice it to say that if I was making decisions for the Israeli air force, I'd roll out something called, "The Deadly Assassin."

Which Doctor Who episode would you name your weapon of medium to mass destruction after?

Umm...

The Seeds of Death?
The Seeds of Doom?
Spearhead from Space?
The Greatest Show in the Galaxy?
The Big Bang?

I think I'd go for Ghost Light.

I like "Spearhead from Space" and "Ghost Light." You definitely wouldn't want to hear that either of them was inbound.

I trawled through the episode list. Here's my short list of weapon names that haven't been covered yet:
Enemy of the World
Fury from the Deep (sea to surface missile)
The Green Death (a bioweapon)
Hand of Fear
Stones of Blood
Nightmare of Eden
State of Decay
Four to Doomsday
Curse of Fenric

Those seem to work.

Satellite-launched nuke: "An Unearthly Child"

"The War Machines" ?
"Inferno" ?

Of course we all know that our "Infernos" and "Green Deaths" and "Enemies of the World" pale in comparison to the soul-crushing terror of one title. A title that describes the most loathsome and wretched abomination that could ever be inflicted upon the world.
"Rose" {shudder}

Oh yeah, girls are icky.

But surely the most destructive weapon we can think of has already been used to destroy mankind. Some people call it "The Idiot's Lantern".

A vile horror known as "Rose" {shudder}

Oh, yes. Absolutely soul-crushing, that one. Utter abomination, that.
