Amazon looking to make a Culture series

Cool, I've heard a lot of good things about the Culture books, but I haven't read them yet. I've had Consider Phlebas on Nook account for a while now, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

Honestly, it's such a sprawling series with such a wide variety of main characters that I don't think any screen adaptation could possibly do it justice. Part of the problem is that I'm sure that any network or streaming service would insist on bringing back "fan favorite" characters for later seasons, which is totally not what the series is about. The universe is so big that every book is only able to cover a very small portion of it and none of the books really overlap. The massive galaxy spanning war that serves as a backdrop to the 1st book is reduced to barely a footnote of pub trivia in the 2nd book. I can only recall 2 characters that even appear in multiple books: Meat Fucker was in both Excession and Look to Windward and then the main guy from Use of Weapons makes a very brief cameo in Surface Detail. (Upon further reading, Meat Fucker doesn't even appear in Look to Windward. He's only mentioned.)

BTW, I love the opening line of the article: "They did it. They canceled Culture.":guffaw:
