Amazing Lightwave/AAE Work...

^^ That's Dave Clark's work (his heavily detailed Galaxy class model was featured several times in the SotL calendar).
The animation started with the idea of low-poly interiors for the Sovereign Class he's working on (SFM thread).

I really love his lighting, camera movement/DOF, and texturing (I'm assuming he did that in Photoshop). Was wondering if he used AAE to add the film grain/distressing...which really gave it that late-1970s/early-1980s vibe (like old 35mm Kodak 5247 film stock).
Not being a modeller, I'm approaching it from a cinematography standpoint...and it's phenomenal.

It is very nice, but something's bugging me about it. I can't put my finger on why, but it looks like a miniature model to me. I keep expecting to see a giant hand place some action figures in the scenes. Maybe it's because the modeling and texturing are too perfect?
A narrow Depth of Field tends to make things look miniature, because it's always more pronounced when filming at a smaller scale. It's one of those effects that is often overdone these days.
And that video was damn amazing. It definitely looks like it's had some colour adjustment to give it a film look, which makes it look very TNG. The lighting is spot on, and the flares are just right, and not overdone. Seeing the warp nacelles through a window looked amazing. I'm just jealous that my video won't come anywhere near this.

It's his color palette and light temperatures. Instead of going with the hotter (in terms of temperature), more "blue" lighting from the Sovereign-class, he chose to use more soft, cool, yellow lights (probably around 3400K or 4000K). That, and the set design lends itself more toward Galaxy v.2 than Sovvie v.1 (which I can't argue with, as I loved the warm feel of the Galaxy interiors...who wants to live in a giant laser tag arena made of tubes and hallways? Even Enterprise refit with all the metal corridors had more warmth and invitation than the Sovvie interiors).
Also, the film distressing/dust and scratches make it look a lot more like films from the 1970s/1980s, giving it a nostalgic feel.
