Am I the only one?

Kirk-Fu

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Who liked Dr. Pulaski more than Dr. Crusher? Don't get me wrong I really like Beverly. But I loved Dr. Pulaski.

You're not alone. I loved Dr. Pulaski. (And IIRC, we're not the only ones on this board who feel this way.) They should have kept her instead of bringing back Crusher.

I like(d) both Crusher and Pulaski. Giving the latter so many "McCoy-lite" elements wasn't the wisest move, IMO, but Diana Muldaur sold the character so well I found I didn't mind that aspect quite so much after a while.

Another vote for Pulaski here. I liked the fact that she brought a tiny bit of antagonism to the main group of characters, who often seemed far too close and lacking in dramatic tension. Pulaski wasn't afraid to challenge Picard.
I have to say I found her a more interesting character than Crusher, and thought that Diana Muldaur was a stronger actress than Gates McFadden.

Yeah, you nailed what I like so much about her. Dare I say she felt more like a character belonging to Deep Space Nine? :shifty:

Though I liked Crusher over Pulaski, I did like her.
Why couldn't they have kept Pulaski when Crusher came back. We have seen that the Enterprise had more then one doctor. Pulaski could have been assistant chief medical officer.

Pulaski could have been assistant chief medical officer.
But wouldn't a scenario in which Crusher is the assistant chief medical officer be more believable? Taking into account that Crusher seems to be younger and Pulaski probably has more experience.

Very true, and I'll add to that - she had personality. Far too often I felt that the roles of TNG characters could've been swapped around without changing the plot, keeping lines intact and all. DS9 did a far better job of making a every character in a large cast seem independent and well-defined.

She brought a good bit more acting horsepower to the show as well, which is not a slight on McFadden. But Muldaur had mad chops. In retrospect I think most agree that TNG was better with a dominant female role like hers. I also loved Pulaski's relationship to Worf.

as a fan of dr crusher and gates, i want to say that initially i wasn't happy with pulaski as i saw her as a replacement for someone i liked. however, since years have gone by and was able to look at it objectively, i liked pulaski. she was a good char and diana muldaur brought something new to the crew. even at her age she was still beautiful. when i saw her again later on a rerun of the old series i was like, wow that's pulaski, she's hot! lol.

anyway, i still prefer crusher. i looked forward to watching with her back. i know i'm biased especially since she was instrumental in my affinity for red heads lol. however, that is not to say i didn't like pulaski cause now i do. :) if an avid crusher fan can say that then you know she was good.

Yeah, I prefer Crusher as well, but I don't sew why Pulaski keeps getting a bum rap.

I liked Pulaski to, but I really wish she was brought back. Heck, I think after she left, she was mentioned once. Would have been nice to see both Gates and Maulder on the screen together somehow.

I preferred Pulaski to Crusher, actually. Crusher isn't a favourite character of mine, to be honest. I like the Picard/Crusher moments, such as they are, but on the whole, I preferred Pulaski. Dunno what she would have been like over the long term, though. Would she have mellowed or become sharper? How would that have effected the overall feel of TNG?
