Am I missing something...

I really don't visit the forum much because the film will not be out for another 5 months, this IS NOT ment to be critical. However, I do find it interesting that for a film, that I can't wait for it to come out. Has more posts then any other Trek forum, can people whe are regular posters educate me as to why this forum seems to be the most popular among
all the other Treks...

For me, it's 'cause it's fun to goof on those who take it way too fucking seriously. :) And I like the original material. If they can do it justice, I'll be happy. If they don't? It doesn't erase my DVDs. :)

This is the newest. Plain and simple.

The others have been discussed for years on end.
Once Trek XII or a series is on the way Trek XI will generate less discussion.

Bingo.

Nearly everything being discussed in the other Trek forums has already been talked about -- backward, forward, inside-out and upside-down -- hundreds or thousands of times before. Most of what's being talked about here is still in the low two figures, and there's even actual new stuff to look at, now and then. People are interested in new stuff, or at least want to spend a lot of time discussing how it stacks up against the old stuff. Or doesn't, as the case may be -- your mileage may vary.

Trek XI will eventually disappear altogether and fold back into Trek Movies.

Probably 90% of the posts are a complete waste. The blue warp nacelles one is an example. No real discussion, it seems like a chat room.
I know we're not curing cancer here, but that thread is just lost on me.

WITCHES! HERETICS! I SAW THEM! THEY FELL FROM THE SKY! HERETICS! THEY FELL OUT OF THE SKY! THEY HAD FIRE IN THEIR EYES, AND THEY HAD HORNS!

See...is that a joke or a reference to something from that thread? I went back and checked that thread, and nothing makes much sense there.

I said it before, I know it's just an internet bulletin board, but it is possible to make it look really useless.

Not everything needs to be a serious discussion over canon, calculating warp speeds, or the question of whether or not Starfleet is a military.

The Blue Wap Nacelles thread is just a bunch of fans having fun, riffing on each other, and being creative. It's one thread on the board that I can count on making me laugh. I'll take it any day over the umteenth Abrams just doesn't get it thread.

I was only proving your point, in a roundabout kind of way. The spam threads consist mostly of seemingly random elements combined in oblique ways. What I posted above was actually a quote from Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. But it was also mocking you, just a little, for your lack of faith in our epic spam threads. ;)

Some of us find the off-the-wall humor in those threads very worthwhile and entertaining. And, as Star Trek fans, would anyone else find page after page of people shouting "THE WOMEN!!!" funny? No, but we do. :)

It's "useless" in terms of providing useful information. In terms of interactive entertainment, this forum delivers in spades. :techman:

I think many people posting here have (maybe unconsciously) just the slightest hope that what they write will have some influence on future Trek productions.

That was why the "Voyager" and "Enterprise" forums were popular when those series were still being produced -- people thought what they posted here might be read by the producers and change something in the show.

Since "Star Trek XI" is the only new Trek in production, people want to talk about it in order to have some power over it.

After the movie comes out, I suspect discussion will drop off, or people will aim their comments at influencing the next sequel or series.

Be excellent to each other and party on dude!

Excellent point. For me, it's the anticipation of returning to the Trek era I love the most and the characters who I relate to the most, hopefully presented in a manner that will indeed make it seem real and tangible.

Besides, it IS a lot of fun to speculate about what we really don't know about yet.

Trek XI will eventually disappear altogether and fold back into Trek Movies.
And by that time, it may be prudent to start a Trek XII forum.

Hey -- why not? This forum has been around for two years, and I think if ST:XI does well enough the sequel will probably open only two years after it.

Ah yes, I remember in one day in February of 2005 when the enterprise forum here had over 3000 people viewing it due to an article at slashdot. :)

I think a Trek XII forum should be started now. Who will be the new computer voice? Will there be more time travel? Will Quinto or Pine price himself out of the movie? Will it be a true sequel or a stand alone story? Will there be as much humor in this movie? Will Abrams direct it, too? Will it gross more than XI?
We've speculated about XI for months based on just dribs and drabs of facts and lots of rumors, so why not get a quick start on XII?
