ALTHistory: WI Star Trek VII was a bomb in the box office?

I still think the failure of Nemesis, particularly on that opening weekend, had more to do with fan frustration over Enterprise, and boycotting the opening was the only form of protest left that Berman and Co. couldn't ignore. .

Nah, fans were the only people who saw NEMESIS.

The general public just wasn't excited about STAR TREK anymore . . . and the fact that the movie got bad reviews during a crowded holiday season didn't help.

Any fannish boycott was insignificant.

No need to drag ENT into this.

I can't speak for anyone else but I stopped caring about ENT in October 2001. Boycotting would imply that I actually cared if the series ended or not.

ENT's early cancellation was inevitable because the television audience for Star Trek had already been shrinking since TNG ended -- seven years by that point, and ENT wasn't going to reverse it. Eventually the gradual shrinking was going to add up to something and so it did in 2003 when UPN wasn't going to give ENT a free pass anymore just because it was Star Trek.

Most people didn't care about Enterprise. If someone had even a remote interest in Star Trek, they were more likely to see Nemesis than watch Enterprise. Outside of TrekBBS, I only knew a grand total of two people who watched ENT and I was neither of them.

For a most people Star Trek's second hiatus was a lot longer than 2005-2009. ST XI was my return to Star Trek after 10 years not four.

That Nemesis was unable to recover from that lousy opening weekend is purely because it was a lousy movie.
That was the reason from the start.
